Mobility, strength, we all know we need to maintain it. Flexibility. Mental stimulation and agility. Many new students say "being able to play on floor with the grandchildren" is their key goal. And yes - we practice different ways of getting up and down from the floor - when it is still accessible. And you can practice at home.
I don't have children or grandchildren but gee I can get so much joy from time with friends' children. Had a heart-enriching few hours playing trains a few weeks ago. Hanging with Mum and the kids really took me out of my normal routine and headspace :) Maybe coming to yoga could give your mind a different headspace to explore....? Beginners and rusty returners welcome. Class times and details and yoga therapy offerings - please see website. Thank you.

š«¶ So heartfelt. Thank you Leanne for such beautiful words. There's something special about coming together in a space with like-minded people for a shared - yet personal experience. Thursday night students are coming straight after work and there's usually a common big sigh out on arrival. "Phew. I'm here" The week's stresses get left behind as students make their way home for often the best sleep of the week. The emerging community is a big bonus of going to a yoga class regularly.
Plenty of variations offered. Beginners welcome. Please message if you'd like to experience this too. And see https://therapeuticyogaillawarra.com.au

At Therapeutic Yoga Illawarra I've been offering Somatics (Thomas Hanna's) once a month at the group classes and for some yoga therapy clients (where appropriate). This might be for you. Such positive feedback:
"Wow. It's hard to explain. Feel SO good. SO relaxed"
"I was really able to relax and let go"
"I wasn't going to come as my lower back was sore. But so glad that I did. Feels a lot better. I feel great right now"
"It's so much less intense than physio, but I can tell the tightness has eased in my shoulder"
"I thought it was really weird at first. But now I feel amazing. So calm"
This finding of a way to be with ourselves and to release or find some way out of dis-ease really seems to me to be the essence of so many practices. And so related to feeling OK with ourselves internally and externally. The human condition huh? Be it that we're sitting with rejection, loss, anger, resentment....sore joints, grief, a niggly lower back pain that won't shift, recovery post surgery, a new, challenging beginning (or ending), physical, mental and emotional challenges....... Why not talk with me about the potential for yoga therapy (including somatic experiences) for helping with specific conditions or circumstances OR you might be interested in joining regular group classes in Thirroul. And thanks for your terrific words.

Student feedback is helpful. Thank you for this Denise. Last month we used the bija mantras to centre and steady ourselves. Chanting can be silent, soft or vocalised. Not performative. Whilst I enjoy chanting myself - it's not for all so it's not a frequent part of class. That said - how lovely it is as a teacher to notice students "finding their voice" - and the connection with self that can arise. Thank you students - you know who you are. And if YOU'D like to snaffle one of the available mats (Thursday 6-7pm and Friday 8.30-9.30am now have some space) to explore how the tools of yoga can accumulatively support YOUR wellbeing - drop me a line at the contact page at https://therapeuticyogaillawarra.com.au - or send a DM. Never too late to start. We meet where you are at.
