LEVERAGE ISN’T MAGIC.
Sometimes, we simply don’t have the right tool for the job.
There are moments in Jiu Jitsu where the task in front of us is too big for the leverage we can apply. When we can’t move the object in front of us… we need to move ourselves.
Jiu Jitsu can give a smaller person incredible tools, but it doesn’t erase the realities of size, strength and physics.
In this video, Coach Phil explains some of the hard realities when it comes to size and Jiu Jitsu — and why understanding those realities is just as important as learning the techniques themselves.
You can’t always overcome size with technique. Sometimes, you need to change the problem. 🥋

Another Saturday morning on the mats with Coach Douglas! 👊
Drillers make killers, and the team was more than eager to put it all into play today. 🔥
On a windy spring morning in Melbourne, there’s nowhere better to be than on the mats with friends, family and the Leverage crew.
Train hard. Have fun. Keep showing up. 🥋💙

While you were sleeping, the boys were hard at it! 👊
The 6AM crew showing up, putting in the work and getting better! 🔥
We drilled the basics, sharpened up the details, then put it all to work with some hard Friday morning rounds and tough training partners.
No shortcuts. Just showing up, putting in the reps and getting better one round at a time. 🥋💪

Coach Nathan Dulics joined the Leverage family almost two years ago, and his wrestling and No-Gi expertise have been a fantastic addition to the team.
His classes are always dynamic, well-rounded and packed with practical details, blending wrestling, grappling and No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu into something that everyone can get something from — whatever your level.
We’re lucky to have Nathan on the mats and part of the Leverage team! 👊🔵⚪️

Coach Stephen Grapsas is one of the OG Leverage black belts — and one of the biggest technical wizards we have on the mats. 👊
A total beast of a training partner, Stephen is the perfect mix of gentle giant and technical behemoth.
His classes are always a chance to see the game from another angle. He has a knack for taking complicated details and ideas and breaking them down into something simple, practical and digestible — no matter your level.
If you haven’t made it to one of Stephen’s classes yet, you’re missing out. His classes are a must-go. 🔥

🥋 Junior Spartans in action!
Gabi Calafiore and Michael McManus introducing our Little Kids to the Junior Spartans Behaviour Stripe Program 👊
Our Behaviour Stripes run alongside the kids’ technical stripes, so while they’re learning and progressing through their Jiu-Jitsu skills, they’re also developing the behaviours that make a great training partner and a great person.
Stripes can be earned by demonstrating good listening, respect, teamwork, effort, self-control and positive behaviour. The kids have clear goals to work towards, receive positive feedback along the way, and can see their progress both technically and personally.
It’s about rewarding the behaviours we want to build — not just how well they can do a technique.
Building great little grapplers starts with building great little people. ❤️🥋

Morning classes pumping! 🔥🥋
The boys getting in some early morning guard-passing rounds while the boss is away. 👊
We don’t stop. We don’t slow down. We keep showing up and putting in the work! 💪
Coach Phil shows some finer points on isolating the forearm of bigger, stronger opponents, giving you better control of the arm while playing guard.
It’s all about the details — using positioning, frames and leverage to take away their strength and create better control and positional advantages from guard. 👊🥋
Another small detail that can make a big difference on the mats.

📸 Today’s Adults Class
Today’s class was taught by Coach Douglas Moraes who joined the Leverage family almost two years ago.
Since then, Douglas has been an awesome training partner and a valuable addition to our coaching team. He brings a deep knowledge of the spider and lasso guards, not just from the technical side, but from years of putting them to work with real training partners.
Today he shared aims guard passing details with the class, breaking down the details and giving everyone plenty to take into their own game.
We’re lucky to have coaches who are still passionate students of the art themselves.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge, Douglas! 👊
