Race Recap:
The final round of Sealink Handicap Series 1 was completed yesterday. Racing commenced with the light breeze, shifting 180 degrees, putting fear into sailors’ hearts. After heat two, the god of the wind smiled upon us and in came the sea breeze. After a course adjustment, the competition intensified, with the whole fleet consistently jockeying for position on the last legs toward the finish line. This was reflected in the final results, with Imogen Kerswell just able to hold off the fast-finishing John Mclean.
Thank you again to the sponsor of this annual event , SeaLink North Queensland.

Tan Lines Distilling DF Club Championship update:
The 3rd round of the Tan lines Distilling DF Club Championship was sailed in ideal conditions. A mid-range “A” rig breeze, with some variation in strength and direction, made for tactical and highly enjoyable racing. In many races, places were decided by as little as half a boat length, with one even ending in a dead heat.

Tan Lines Distilling - Marblehead Championship
Mayhem met the skippers in the first of the day’s races. The strong breeze and overpowered Marbleheads provided plenty of entertainment for onlookers, but spelled disaster for skippers, with multiple collisions and broken boats. Roger Freney contested his first races in a new boat and, although he suffered early damage, was able to continue for the rest of the day with a smaller rig. The remaining races were a little more subdued, with guest skippers sailing Ray’s fleet and completing six races for the day. Meanwhile, the DF95 fleet revelled in the fresh early breeze, enjoying the opportunity to give the “B” rigs a run before switching back to bigger sails later in the day.

Sydney Tools North Queensland DF95 Regatta:
Beginning with a benign breeze and building to a boisterous “B”‑rig blast, the 2026 Sydney Tools North Queensland Regatta unfolded with two days of intense and competitive racing.
Sportsmanship and Support:
The true highlight of the event was the outstanding sportsmanship on display, with inevitable on‑water contact handled in great spirit. This was matched by an enthusiastic willingness from all involved to help set up the venue and equipment, creating an enjoyable and welcoming environment throughout the regatta.
Acknowledgements:
Special recognition is due to the incredible non‑sailing contributors, particularly the mothers who selflessly gave up a well‑deserved breakfast in bed to support and care for the kids playing on the water. Heartfelt thanks go to the photographers, the volunteers who prepared lunch, the rescue‑boat logistics lead, and, of course, the Race Officer and his team. The event was a tremendous success and a genuine team effort, showcasing the combined skills, commitment, and camaraderie of Mackay RSC and Townsville RCY.
We are grateful for the support of our sponsor, Sydney Tools, along with our club partners Tan Lines Distilling, SeaLink North Queensland, DakTech and Bergan Sails whose contributions greatly enhance the prestige of the event.
