Tis the season of giving and I'm happy to promote this as a way to celebrate getting through another year and starting 2023 the best way.
Doing the job I love, I want to be able to help anyone who is ready to be better. If that's losing weight, building muscle, getting stronger or fitter, running your first 5km or competing as an athlete, I'm here to help.

Tayla Donnell-Wales This is a client I am super proud of this year. Tayla wanted to complete her first half marathon this year Cairns Marathon Festival . With an athletic background of competing as a rower, Tayla had a good base in regards to cardio and strength. She had a good relationship with food and had an outstanding mentality when it comes to hitting the gym and keeping an active routine.
With limited running experience and roughly 6 months to train for her first half marathon, I'm again super proud of her result. Going through, firstly, the strengthening and technique process to reduce risk of injury, secondly improving her muscle endurance along with slowly increasing running volume, then finally training for pacing and race day preparation. Through the process education was always a huge thing like, learning breathing techniques, impacts of diet, potential overuse injuries, shoes and other race day factors.
Of course through the period of training there was a few speed bumps such as sickness, fatigue, loss of strength and muscle and even weight gain. In the whole process, Tayla did much better than expected. No injures or overuse joint pain, comfortable pacing on race day and being able to say 'I could've kept going or gone faster' after she completed the race in Cairns. Absolutely amazing.
As a client, Tayla was amazing and I couldn't ask for anyone better as a trained athlete with experience in a different field.
As a friend, Tayla has a great appetite for good food and a smile that's able to brighten up the room. I wish you all the best for future competitions.

Everyone meet Rhiannon. One of favourite clients that I've ever had the pleasure to train. Rhiannon , like many had the goal to look better, get stronger but most importantly, to feel better in regards to everyday living, just like everyone else should. No quick fixes here, no fad diets, no tiktok trends. There were speed bumps along the way but it's never about getting to the goal and going back to where you were before. It's about periodically improving yourself from where you started and continuing to improve over the long term. Rhiannon definitely did that over the 7 months of training with me. Exponentially dropping body fat and increasing strength in all lifts.
It always makes me proud to see someone new to the gym able to come in, see then hit goals consistently and see how much better they become day in and day out. This is real progress and I'm super proud of Rhiannon and I know she will continue to progress through life in a positive way, being both physically and mentally.

Me and Donnie have teamed up to give you a promotion to all those coming to Strand Central that are interested in boxing for fitness. With the gym nearing stage 2 of completion, a new boxing area will be opened and more classes will be available.

Soon I'll be taking on more classes at Strand Central with their awesome new equipment. That includes top of the like boxing bags of all sorts (and even brand new bikes with technology from Europe)

Do you like running?
Do you think running is too boring?
Ever considered trail running?
I love competitive trail running. It may not look like I'm having fun here but I find the thrill of hills, uneven surfaces, being in nature and absolutely stunning views the best thing about trail running. That being said, the amount of risks in trail running puts a lot of people off trying. For myself, I know the risks and I know how to deal with it and prevent it to the best of my ability.
I love my athletic training, I absolutely love functional movement and I love working with people.

Who's ready to let some anger out?
Boxing sessions have just begun this month with a few of my clients. It's extremely enjoyable for both myself and the one throwing punches 🥊
Not only is boxing a good way to release some anger and frustration from the daily grind or a bad day but it also has its benefits for general health. Both only do you work on cardio, you work muscles that you might have never thought that are used for boxing. Being both efficient and strong throwing a punch doesn't just require pure strength but also technique, rhythm and coordination. It's almost like a dance 🕺💃

Here's a basic whole body home workout you can do at your own progression that should only take 30 minutes of your day. Requiring minimal to no equipment and little strength for each exercise.
Make sure to pick the progress that makes the exercise challenging as well at resting for AT LEAST 60 seconds before continuing your next set.
My standard is of you can do 13 - 15 reps of an exercise you are ready to move on to the next progression.
Highly recommended getting bands to make pulling exercises more practical at home.

Little 'peak' on how my training is going so far. First race in the books, Castle Hill 6km (technically 7km on my watch) finishing 7th overall out of 227 participants. 4th in my age group 16 - 29 y/O males. Insane summer heat, starting my run at 6:45am with 3 peaks to climb on this run, temperature reaching up to 36 degrees that day.
Shout out to Outer Limits Adventure Fitness for putting on the trail series year round. These champs keep the events tight, well organised and safe for all participants to the best of their ability. Of course there will be risks involved running trails but these guys are no doubt the best in the business especially with all the caring volunteers.
The weeks before this run I completed 4 non serious races every weekend. 3 runs with Townsville Road Runners - off season alpine series and 1 run in Brisbane for charity, Sri Chinmoy botanic gardens Twilight run. Placed ok in the Alpine series and came 4th overall in the 10km Twilight run. Didn't really take them seriously but they were all good experience, especially the Alpine series. Some really good runners here in Townsville.
Hope y'all have been smashing your goals this year so far. We are in our 3rd month of the year so stay on that grind. It's also never too late to start.
