Coffee to get going.
Sugar to keep going.
Wine to stop going.
Sound familiar?
You know what you should be doing.
But something deeper is driving the pattern.
It's not about nutrition.

You wake exhausted.
Coffee is the only thing that gets you moving.
By 3pm, you're reaching for sugar.
By 8pm, wine is the only off-switch.
You know this isn't sustainable.
But you can't seem to break the pattern.

You’ve tried the productivity hacks. You’ve scheduled the self-care. So why are you still exhausted? Maxed out? Overwhelmed? Running on empty? Not because you failed. But because you were trying to solve the wrong problem.
The exhaustion is not coming from your schedule.
It is coming from an identity that keeps pulling you back into overdrive.
As a doctor with more than three decades of clinical experience, lived experience of burnout, and a deep understanding of identity patterns in women, I know how this pattern forms and how to help women change it.
It is not a time management problem.
It is a whole-system issue.
And it requires a whole-system response.

You have spent years reading the room and adjusting yourself so nobody feels threatened, burdened, or uncomfortable. On the outside, you look confident. Capable. Even powerful. But inside, there is constant self-editing. You hold back your ideas. Your opinions. Your needs. Your intensity. Your ambition.
This is not humility.
It is an internal operating system that believes: I am too much.
Too loud. Too emotional. Too ambitious. Too intense.
So, you learnt long ago to dial yourself down in order to belong.
You end up in roles and relationships that feel suffocating. You give more than you receive. And beneath the composure is often quiet frustration, loneliness, and the exhaustion of carrying a version of yourself that is smaller than the truth.
As a doctor who has studied exhaustion and identity patterns in women closely, I have helped many high-achieving women stop shrinking themselves to belong in rooms that are too small for them, reclaim their full voice, and start thriving in their success rather than just surviving it.

You read the room before you even walk in. You know what people need before they ask. You remember the details others forget. You’re agreeable. Non-confrontational. Quiet.
People are delighted to keep talking about themselves while you play the appreciative accommodating audience. But they rarely ask about you. Your experiences. Your aspirations. Your opinions.
So you keep waiting for people to include you. To notice what you like. To recognise your talents. To see your brilliance – but they never do.
This is not modesty.
It is an internal operating system that says: it’s not safe to be myself.
You learnt this pattern young. It kept you safe. Accepted. Belonging.
But the cost is not just exhaustion. It is the loss of yourself.
As a doctor who has studied exhaustion and identity patterns in women closely, I have helped many high-achieving women stop disappearing into other people’s stories, reclaim their voice, and start showing up as their full selves.

You say yes before you have even thought about it. Someone needs something. You deliver. Someone asks for more. You find a way.
And somewhere in the back of your mind, a quiet voice wonders: would they still value me if I said no?
So, you keep saying yes. Even when you are exhausted. Even when you are maxed out. Even when you know this pace is not sustainable.
On the surface this may look like generosity.
But it’s actually an internal operating system that has learned: my value lies in what I give.
And the truth is you’ve ended up with so much on your plate, you sometimes miss the deadline and the results you deliver are nowhere near what you’re capable of. The disappointment you unwittingly create is gut wrenching.
When you were younger this pattern kept you safe. It helped you feel needed. It helped you belong.
Now, there’s never time left over for your own goals and dreams. And you may be closer to burnout than you realise.
As a doctor who has studied burnout and identity patterns in women closely, I have helped many high-achieving women stop overgiving, reclaim their time, and thrive in their success rather than just survive it. And in fact, it usually strengths their relationships and how much people value them.
