Today, during NRL Indigenous Round, the Townsville Chiefs MRLC proudly acknowledges and celebrates the incredible contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to our club, our game and our community.

We are privileged to work alongside Indigenous men and women every day, pull on the boots with them, share a laugh after the game, compete against them on the field, and stand beside them through our fundraising and community initiatives. The friendships we’ve built and the respect we’ve earned for one another are something we truly value.

Rugby league has always had a unique way of bringing people together, breaking down barriers and creating lifelong mateship. At the Chiefs, we’re proud to be part of a game that embraces diversity, all cultures and respect.

Today we honour the world’s oldest continuing culture and recognise the strength, resilience, knowledge and traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Thank you to our Indigenous teammates, opponents, workmates, volunteers, sponsors, supporters and friends for everything you bring to our club and our community.

A simple act of kindness can mean the world.

Recently, two of our Townsville Chiefs MRLC players had the privilege of visiting Cliff to help celebrate his 99th birthday, presenting him with two Townsville Chiefs MRLC shirts after seeing his daughter-in-law’s heartfelt call for help.

A huge thank you to Steve, George and young Master Oliver for purchasing the shirts and proudly representing our club in such a special and humbling moment.

This is Cliff.

This Saturday, Cliff is celebrating his 99th birthday.

Yesterday we met his daughter in law, Leone, who has had an overwhelming response to a post she shared requesting that if anyone had a few spare moments, to send Cliff a birthday card.

Cliff has recently moved into a nursing home and his world has become a little smaller and lonely.

We thought we'd help make Cliff's birthday even more special by collecting video birthday messages from our Triple M family.

If you have 20 seconds to spare, we'd love for you to record a quick "Happy Birthday, Cliff!" It doesn't have to be fancy, just a simple message to let him know people are thinking of him.

Let's see if we can make a 99-year-old North Queensland legend smile. ❤️
