NT Title Time!
One of the biggest nights on the Northern Territory speedway calendar has arrived, with Katherine Speedway set to roar into life this weekend as some of the country's best young drivers converge for the 2026 SSA Bob Holt Junior Sedan Northern Territory Title.
Hosted by the Katherine Speedway this Saturday, August 8, the event has attracted an outstanding 21-car field, with competitors making the journey from across Australia in pursuit of the coveted NT1.
Drivers from Western Australia, Queensland and New South Wales will join the Territory's finest, creating a truly national field for what promises to be a spectacular night of Junior Sedan racing.
Heading into the championship, all eyes will be on defending winner Benji Gordon, who claimed last year's Northern Territory Title at Tennant Creek. Gordon returns looking to successfully defend the crown and make it three consecutive Northern Territory Titles for the Gordon family, adding another chapter to an already impressive legacy.
Last year's runner-up Hannah Tomkins has since graduated from the Junior Sedan ranks, leaving third-place finisher River Spitzbarth as the only other returning podium finisher. After narrowly missing out twelve months ago, Spitzbarth will be eager to go two places better and claim the biggest victory of his career.
Among the interstate challengers is Townsville's Jai Cotterell, while Western Australia has assembled a formidable seven-car contingent. With several of those drivers enjoying outstanding success throughout recent months, they'll be aiming to return West with the Northern Territory Title for what would be the fourth time in the event's history.
Standing in their way will be a determined group of local Territorians desperate to end a lengthy drought.
It has been eighteen years since a Northern Territory driver last won the NT Junior Sedan Championship, but this year's local contingent appears more than capable of breaking that streak.
Leading the charge is Riley King, who enters the event full of confidence after winning the Darwin Title at Northline Speedway just a fortnight ago. His brother Rhys King also heads into the weekend in strong form after taking victory in the most recent feature race at Katherine Speedway.
They'll be joined by fellow local standouts Caiden Weaver, Kade Beurskens and Brock Beurskens, along with several other talented Territory competitors who will all be hoping to keep the coveted NT1 plate on home soil.
With Friday night's practice providing teams their final opportunity to dial in their cars, attention will quickly turn to Saturday's championship program, where every lap will count in the battle to become the next Northern Territory Champion.
A quality interstate invasion, a hungry local contingent, a defending champion chasing history and a wide-open field combine to ensure all the ingredients are in place for an unforgettable night of Junior Sedan racing at Katherine Speedway.
