Don’t allow a Martial Artist with a bad attitude hold your team culture hostage because of their talent. Ever……Teach Attitude First, set strong standards and ensure you keep your own standards of behaviour high. Integrity and honesty is important.
The implementation of this requires steadfast leadership but will inspire more people to be strong and kind, technical and strategical, disciplined and professional. The opposite will see your mats stay the same size and your competition results suffer.
When you focus on everyone’s potential and not their talent you will help improve people’s lives on and off the mat whether they compete or not.

There is definitely two types of people one appreciates all the help they get. The other only see help as criticism and that they are never good enough.
You want to try and develop your ability to access the benefits of person one and avoid the traps of being person two.
We should all be working together to support each others goals…

Make no mistake about it. Real Martial arts are powerful. And doing them requires courage, self awareness and risk taking.
But the more risks you take. The more discipline you have. The more courage you use, the stronger you become.
For some people it’s overcoming the fear of real sparring. For others it’s simply turning up.
Then there is others needing to face better opponents as they are undefeated. Or coming back from your first loss or string of loses. Even just returning from injury requires a level of courage.
Whatever part of your journey you are at! Remember it is unique to you.
The flip side of that is the values and process to overcome it is not so unique. Be committed to facing the problem head on. Be consistent in turning up to upskill in the area of your problem. Have the courage to do the work necessary free of excuses.
Stay the course. Keep fighting. And hopefully the courage you develop on the mat will serve you well off the mat.

I wasn’t much for traditional schooling and have led an interesting life of adventures of sorts with 3 deployments with the royal australian infantry and a competitive martial arts “career” lasting 7 years. It left me with some gifts physical and not physical. Not many people who leave an infantry battalion or have over 10 professional MMA bouts leave unscathed….
😂❤️🔥💛💚❤️🔥
5 knee surgeries.
2 SLAC wrists due to torn ligaments.
1 elbow surgery.
1 wrist surgery.
Cracked degenerative vertebrae C4,5,6
Bulged disks in my lower, middle and upper back.
Advanced arthritis in my ankles, knees and wrists.
Incoming hip resurfacing….😬
Would I change the way I did somethings. Absolutely. And we at Courage Training Centre have. Having a career in the Royal Australian Infantry and Fighting Mixed Martial Arts are two things I wouldn’t change. Finding things I enjoyed and doing them at maximum speed and passion has been an adventure.
I have definitely given the body some hard kilometres trying to maximise my potential.
Life is full of necessary reflection and changes, advancements and evolution. The next one isn’t far away but like everyone it always comes with a feeling of anxiety, overwhelm and confusion. Overtime I have found the most challenging times have caused the most growth and have gifted me wisdom for the next challenge.
When your in a hole you must draw on your strength to crawl out of it on your own. People can give you a hand up but they can’t crawl out of that hole for you.
Here is my list of things I do to help crawl out of any hole I’ve dug myself:
Refresh yourself with an daily exercise plan as little as 20minutes a day works.
Make time for a hobby commit to a min amount of hours a week. You still have to find time for fun. Make it something healthy.
Reach out for chat with some trusted friends and mentors that are well balanced.
Reach out for professional advice in the field that requires the most help. (Business, fitness, hobby, health, financial, legal, psychological)
Make time for sunshine, nature and fresh air.
Make a list of things to be grateful for and spend some time with those things….
Eat healthier, reduce alcohol and sugar. Be mindful not to abuse any drug’s prescription or not.
Read a useful non fiction book to try and upskill the software in your head.
Every day get something done even if it’s small. Make a list. Little chores and errands are the start of creating much larger momentum.

The only accountability that matters is the kind you serve yourself.
Be your own greatest supporter, cheerleader and coach.
People in your circle may be inspiration, keepers of standards, support for solving problems and access to knowledge but in the end you are the one that suffers the accounts of your actions.
Only you can make your actions match your goals and desires.

Real talk time….
Mental toughness is not fighting someone in a ring or a cage.
Mental toughness is definitely not lifting heaving things.
Mental toughness for sure isn’t sitting in icy cold water.
Mental Toughness isn’t doing a marathon.
For sure these things can aid in building mental toughness.
But mental toughness in my opinion is keeping your promises to yourself and the people you love.
Mental toughness is owning all the good and bad things in your life with honesty.
Mental toughness is overcoming pain with truth, humility, gratitude and action.
