Hi all, it's been a while. But I am still here and still building, and repairing rods. Just thought I would put up a post showing the latest project.

A customer came around the other week with a 13ft, 1 pce surf rod. He wanted the guides taken off, rebound and epoxied as the binding that were on there were in a mess.

So I said I would do it for him. I took it outside to strip of the guides, but the rod wouldn't fit in the house properly so I had to rebind it under the verandah. Will be epoxying indoors tomorrow.

The house will be chaos, but I can't do it outside under the verandah, that would be a real issue. Just to give you an idea here is the rod under the verandah after taking the guides off. Tight Lines All.

Hi all, I think it's about time I put up another post, just to let you know I am still alive and kicking.
I have just finished building a 3pce 12-20kg stick for myself.

I figure I deserve it. The blank is a Samurai 13 footer, but I have added an extra 6 inches to the butt section, with a sand spike to bring it to a total of 13' 6" altogether.

The rod weighs in at a reasonable 500 gram weight, so not heavy for a rod like this. This is a real come here stick, but still has a nice fast action and feeling through the tip. Perfect for Mulloway, or anything else for that matter.

I left the original designation exposed on the butt section, because it happen to line up nicely with the backbone. I am still debating whether I want to put a pattern on it and some trim bands, or just leave it plain, but they can be done anytime.

Now to move on to the next custom build, in between repairs and this one is for no other than Julz, yes that Julz. Anyway must go, but before I do, Tight Lines All.

Hi all, I received a pleasant surprise in the mail the other day from an old mate in WA. He is a gun fly tier and sent me these as a gift.

A few mudeyes as there is a hatch on at the moment and some Cod and Saltwater Flies. A few more to add to my rather large collection of Saltwater Flies.

Now all that's needed is the time and the money to go up north and use them. As per usual 'Tight Lines All.'

Hi all, looks like I am on a bit of a roll posting at the moment.

I just finished a beautiful 9ft 5wt graphene fly rod rod, destined for its new home at Cooma. No doubt it is going to catch a lot of trout up that way, as I know who is going to be using it.

I just had a beautiful Samurai blank turn up for a build. You guys will all know the person who commissioned it 'Julz'. I will post photos when finished.

However, I put up this post really to show the butt section of the fly rod and highlight the my new logo, the one designed by Jo Starling, thanks Jo. Hope you lot like the rod, sorry my photography is not great. As per usual, 'tight lines all'.

Hi all, it's been a while, but with one thing and another I've been busy. This is a post I have been meaning to put up for a while, hope you find it interesting.

The first photo here is of a Century Fireblade rod that I own. You will notice that the reel seat is near the bottom of the rod. The second photo is of the same rod, bur with the reel seat much higher up the blank.

The reel seat on this rod is adjustable up and down the butt for a fair way. This is achieved by the reel seat looking like it does in the third photo.

The reel seat has had a groove cut around it underneath where the foot of the reel would sit. This allows the reel to tighten down on the blank when it is screwed up by the locking nut on the reel seat. Ingenious.

Anyway, that is enough for today, I just thought I would put this up rather than the same old photos of broken rods and guide wraps. Back to that next time. Cheers

Happy New Year everyone. It’s been a while since I’ve put up a post, but I had a few minutes today so thought I’d share a recent job.

A customer came in with a Wilson MT 7144 — in other words, a 7-wrap, 144-inch one piece surf rod, originally built for an Alvey.

He asked if I could cut the blank and convert it into a two-piece rod, as it was becoming cumbersome to transport. He also wanted it set up for a spinning reel rather than an Alvey sidecast. I said no problem and explained what needed to be done.

The first step was cutting off the 6-inch sand spike, which he no longer wanted. I then removed the short rear grip, reel seat and foregrip and replaced them with new components to suit the revised setup.

The original Wilson label was damaged, yellowing and had a lot of air bubbles in the epoxy, so I made up a new label identical to the original. This was fitted during reassembly, as the original label would have been covered by the longer grips anyway.

I was really happy with how it all turned out — and so was the customer. I tried to get a proper photo of the finished rod, but that proved difficult. I’ll let the attached photos tell the story, even though they don’t quite do the finished rod justice.

G'Day all. I thought I would put up a few photos of a surf rod I finished for a customer just prior to going into hospital.

The rod is built on a Samurai CG3 blank and rated at 10-15kg lineclass. I own one of these and they are an awesome bit of kit for down the coast.

I also own one of this 10-15kg blanks bigger brothers. That particular blank is a 13ft 3 piece 12-20kg blank. I haven't had time to get it built yet, but will shortly.

I put the customer's first name on it as he wanted it there, and placed a Striped Marlin on either side. I also put on a little sawblade wrap just to pretty things up a bit.

Anyway I hope you like the photos, but I have to go now as I have 3 repairs to get epoxied. As per usual 'Tight Lines All'.

Hi all, I just got home after spending a few days in hospital and am feeling fine.

So I thought I would just notify you all of my Christmas/New Year availability. I will be here all the time over the holiday period unless I take a day off to go wet a line somewhere.

Hi all. I recently had a customer come in with a few repairs. Two needed the tips replaced but the third one was this old girl with the cork handle. It appeared to have been eaten by rats or something.

Anyway I was hoping to save the cork and repair that, but alas it was too far gone to do that so I ended up replacing all of the cork and fitting a new Gimbal and Rear Grip.

Bit of a difference huh. Anyway it was worth doing as it was a decent rod, so if you come across something in the shed like this don't just throw it out, give me a call first. As per usual 'Tight Lines All'.
