This contributor often rolls up with this drill with a couple of tweaks but purely focused on draw bowls.
🎯DRAW DRILL - 40 BOWLS. ONE JACK. ZERO EXCUSES.
The draw drill that tells you the truth… politely. 😄
New to the green? Welcome!
The 40-Bowl Draw Drill is one of the simplest ways to test your line, length and consistency — without taking yourself too seriously.
HOW IT WORKS:
🥣 10 ends × 4 bowls = 40 draws
🎯 Draw to short and long jacks
↔️ Play both forehand & backhand
📏 Score 1 point if your bowl finishes within one mat length (about 60cm) of the jack.
Maximum score: 40
And remember — it's not about being perfect. Beginners celebrating 12–18 are doing just fine. Club regulars might chase 20–28, while the show-offs are hunting 30+! 😉
Missed the jack? Be honest:
➡️ Narrow
➡️ Wide
➡️ Short
➡️ Long
WHY WE LOVE IT ❤️
It trains one of the most important shots in bowls — the draw.
It shows you:
• Which hand needs more work
• Which lengths challenge you
• Where you're consistently missing
• Whether your practice is actually paying off
And the best part? You can do it solo in around 45–60 minutes.
Warm up first. Keep your routine consistent. Watch every bowl right through to the stop. Change one thing at a time.
Then try to beat yesterday's score.
Because every bowl tells a story… and those short bowls?
They ALWAYS tell on you. 😂
