THE WORST PUTTING ADVICE IN GOLF
"Never up, never in." You hear it every single Saturday. Your mates tell you this right before you smash a putt five feet past the hole and guarantee yourself a miserable three-putt.
It is the worst advice in golf.
Telling a golfer to never leave a putt short is exactly like telling a chef to always overcook a steak. You just end up with a lot of well-done mistakes.
Amateurs are so terrified of leaving a putt short that they completely abandon their speed control. The blunt reality is that a putt dying at the hole has a chance to drop in from any side. A putt travelling a million miles an hour is just going to lip out and leave you with an absolute knee-knocker coming back.
Stop listening to your mates' clichés. Stop playing ego golf on the greens. Learn how to control your speed, leave the ball in a safe spot, and take your easy two-putts.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN:
MANAGING EXPECTATIONS ON RECOVERY SHOTS
When you're out of position, your only job is to get the ball UP and AROUND the green. If it lands on the green, that's a bonus. I was not firing at the flag - I was playing to save my score.
NAILING THE SETUP FOR HEIGHT
To clear the trees I needed a 7-iron with enough loft. But strategy is useless without contact. I break down why ball position is non-negotiable on a recovery shot - hit it heavy or thin and you're straight back into the timber.
THE REALITY OF GOLF
I picked my target, set my ball position, and still hit the bloody branches. That's golf. But because I played smart and had margin for error, luck stayed on my side.

THE ULTIMATE SCORE KILLER
You hit the range three times a week. You watch every swing analysis video on the internet. Your effort is incredibly high, and your knowledge of the golf swing is off the charts.
But when you step onto the golf course, all of that hard work goes completely out the window because you have absolutely zero discipline.
Lack of discipline is the ultimate score killer for a practice fairway legend. You know you should not aim at a tucked sucker pin, but your ego takes over and you do it anyway. You know you should just pitch out sideways from the thick rough, but you pull a fairway wood and chunk it twenty metres.
It does not matter how picture-perfect your swing looks on a synthetic mat if you cannot stick to a smart plan when the scorecard is in your pocket.
Stop playing ego golf. Start using the RE-PAR system to evaluate your environment, make a sensible plan, and actually have the discipline to execute it.
