The damaged shade structure at Leisel Close Reserve, Upper Coomera has now been fully removed and the playground is once again open and ready for play.

Replacement of the shade structure is underway, however this may take a little time. It’s regrettable as we move towards warmer weather but I’ll keep you updated as the project progresses.

𝗦𝗣𝗘𝗘𝗗 𝗛𝗨𝗠𝗣
To improve safety for pedestrians at the Upper Coomera Centre, a speed hump will be installed ahead of the crossing. To minimise disruption, the work will occur outside business hours, with installation scheduled for later this month. Please drive slowly within the car park and remain mindful of pedestrians at all times.

𝗞𝗲𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 – 𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝗢𝗟𝗬𝗠𝗣𝗜𝗔 𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗞𝗟𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗦
At this week’s meeting of Full Council, Councillors supported a Mayoral Minute to rename the Kerkin Road Adventure Parklands “Olympia Parklands”. This is in recognition of the sister city relationship between the City of Gold Coast and the Municipality of Ancient Olympia, Greece, the birthplace of the Olympic Games. As a co-host city for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Gold Coast shares a special connection with Ancient Olympia, where the Olympic story began thousands of years ago.

There was also conflict between the Adventure Parklands naming and the Upper Coomera Adventure Playground – and this nullifies any confusion and will be a proud legacy of the Gold Coast’s nexus with the City of Ancient Olympia and the Olympic Games.

𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗸𝗼𝗮𝗹𝗮 𝗽𝗼𝗽𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲
As part of the development, fauna fencing to help protect local koalas will be installed along Kerkin Road South opposite St Joseph’s College between 21 September and 23 October 2026. This may cause slight traffic delays due to the requirement to remove three trees. The work will be undertaken under the supervision of Council’s arborist and a fauna spotter-catcher will be on site. The result will improve wildlife connectivity and help keep the local koala population safe.

The anti-hooning trailer has been deployed to Heathwood Drive Upper Coomera to capture footage to send to Queensland Police.

The shade structure over the playground at Leisel Close Reserve is damaged beyond repair. To ensure community safety, the area has been cordoned off and arrangements are being made for the structure to be removed.

The playground will reopen following removal and I will keep you updated regarding replacement.

A 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 has been lodged for a Reconfiguration of a Lot for a Community Title Scheme subdivision (1 into 6 lots) at 𝗟𝗼𝘁 𝟰𝟵 𝗦𝗸𝘆𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲, 𝗨𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗮. The application invites public submissions which must be lodged during the advertised period between 14 August 2026 and 4 September 2026, a total of 15 business days.
