Tonightโ€™s class, instructed by ๐—ฅ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ด๐—ฒ ๐— ๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—น๐—บ ๐—”๐—ป๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€๐—ผ๐—ป, explored a different way of understanding our Kata and the way we approach confrontation.

We should all aim to become a ๐—ช๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—›๐—ถ๐—น๐—น โ€” neutral in emotion, yet completely aware of what is happening around us. From our own personal space, we observe rather than become concerned with things that have not yet entered our

Our Personal Space is our buffer zone โ€” the space around everything we hold dear: our family, our home and our wellbeing.

When something enters that space, the Watcher on the Hill changes. We begin to lose our neutrality and become the

Now we ๐—ฅ๐—ถ๐˜€๐—ธ ๐—”๐˜€๐˜€๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜€.

Displacement or redirecting the threat is generally sufficient.

Containment or restraint may be required to suppress the situation.

Elimination may be required to stop the threat in its tracks.

This same philosophy can be found within our Kata.

As we ๐—ฆ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฝ ๐—จ๐—ฝ ๐˜๐—ผ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—Ÿ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฒ, we become the ๐—ช๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—›๐—ถ๐—น๐—น.

As the threat approaches our Personal Space, we ๐—›๐—ผ๐—น๐—ฑ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—Ÿ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฒ, becoming the ๐—š๐˜‚๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฑ๐—ถ๐—ฎ๐—ป ๐—ฎ๐˜ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—š๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฒ.

We then enter ๐—ฉ๐—ถ๐˜€๐—ถ๐˜๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป โ€” slowing things down, becoming aware, composing ourselves and projecting our presence. This is where we

Once the threat has been assessed, we choose the appropriate course of action and enter ๐—ช๐—ฎ๐—ฟ ๐— ๐—ผ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ, dealing with the threat according to its level.

The greater the threat, the greater the ๐—ฆ๐—ต๐—ผ๐—ฐ๐—ธ ๐—ช๐—ฎ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ we leave behind.

Kata should not be viewed as one big brawl. It is a series of ๐—บ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ถ ๐—ฏ๐—ฎ๐˜๐˜๐—น๐—ฒ๐˜€, each sequence having its own beginning, escalation, resolution and reset.

After each ๐—ช๐—ฎ๐—ฟ ๐— ๐—ผ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ and resulting ๐—ฆ๐—ต๐—ผ๐—ฐ๐—ธ ๐—ช๐—ฎ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ, we breathe out slowly, reset and return to ๐—ก๐—ฒ๐˜‚๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ถ๐˜๐˜†.

We then focus on the next sequence, breathe in and begin again:

When we approach Kata this way, it begins to breathe new life.

The Kata becomes more than a series of movements.

Hi Guys another full floor at Bloodaxe Honbu with 19 participants preparing for the upcoming grading on the 30th. At Brassall State School. Renge Malcolm taking class working on fundamental techniques that apply to any given situation you may encounter whether black belt or white belt it has a positive application iregardless of rank. This aspect requires development of not just physical development important as that is but there must be a parallel development of mind strength as they are absolutely entangled.
