Last night we celebrated the Karate Queensland annual awards night with some of our Australian Academy Of Martial Arts Karate-Do Club Inc. - AAMA athletes and our internationally ranked referee Senpai Vesa. What a great evening among the broader karate community and it is so amazing to see the true team spirit that is really developing within the team driven by the amazing Leonie Dooley, our very own Qld Team Captain Senpai Tom Foreman and the inimitable Big Theo - the love being shared for the big man was incredible. We reflect on an amazing Nationals where AAMA athletes dominated in veterans divisions with one of the true highlights being the tribute to the late Shihan Keleher by his inspirational daughter Bianca as she collected her medal in the female veterans division.

All of us at AAMA can’t wait until next year and the prospect of Karate Queensland hosting the Karate Australia National titles

A huge congratulations to our very own AAMA President Steve Williams. Steve represented Queensland and became the Australian Champion in vets kumite at the national titles in Tasmania today. A great achievement!

As we in the final countdown to the Karate Australia 2026 Nationals in Hobart all of us at Australian Academy Of Martial Arts Karate-Do Club Inc. - AAMA wish all athletes but in particular team Queensland Karate Queensland the very best of luck. We know you will all represent Qld and Karate with pride and class.

With the Karate Australia National Titles less than 1 week away Team Queensland has been honing their skills in preparation. Australian Academy Of Martial Arts Karate-Do Club Inc. - AAMA has been a proud member of Karate Queensland and this year we were very proud to again share our amazing facility as the training base at Mt Gravatt, for the State Team as they prepare. On behalf of all of us at AAMA we wish every competitor the very best as they take on the nations best. Good luck to all of the coaches and referees/judges for the event also as they represent Qld.

We are sure you will represent Qld with spirit and determination.

AAMA students benefited from a special kumite kihon training session on Sunday afternoon with guest instructor Ayaka Tadano. Ayaka was a member of the Japanese national kumite team for 7 years (2015 to 2021) , WKF Premier League Gold Medalist 2015, 2016 and 2018 and the WKF Series "A" dual gold medalist in 2019. The 2st hour of the 2 hour training session worked through the warm-up routine of the Japan National Kumite Team. We will release some videos from this training over the next few weeks, but here are a few group photos after training to start us off...

A whirlwind weekend of events at AAMA last weekend! Congrats to Skip on his grading to 2nd Dan. Recognition of diligent and regular training for many years. Well done.

Presented by Karate Queensland and facilitated by AAMA, Ayaka Tadano will be presenting two specialist kumite training seminars on Sunday 7th June 2026. Ayaka was a Japan National Team member for 7 years (2015 to 2021), WKF Premier League Gold Medalist in 2015, 2016 and 2018, and WKF Series "A" dual Gold Medalist in 2019.

Suited to serious kumite players wanting to improve their craft, this is a training session not to be missed. Places are limited to 30 students per session.

When: 7th June, 1st sessionis 2:00pm to 3.30pm, 2nd session is 3.30pm to 5:00pm
Where: AAMA Dojo, Carson Lane, 1873 Logan Road, Upper Mount Gravatt
Cost: $25 for one session or $45 for both, cash on the day
