Queensland Tri Series - Raby Bay 2023

Didn’t really go into this one with any personal expectations due to a few ongoing injuries, most of which could probably be sorted with a good stretching routine 😬.

Had a surprisingly good swim (for me anyway) and was shocked there were still plenty of the bikes left in T1. No worries though, with a classic Steve brain fart I started to run out of T1 without my helmet. Managed to get to the mount line and then realised 🤬🤬 Ran back to the rack and started again 🙈🙈

Not really a good look in front of some of the athletes I coach 😆😆

Still onwards and upwards, decided against throwing in the towel and had a cracking bike leg. 33.9km/hr avg over the bike leg, pretty good for my standard.

T2 had a smoother feel, in and out pretty quick. Ran past the club tent to a couple of quality comments about leaving my helmet. First prize went to Oscar on that one 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Managed to run myself back up the field and into 2nd place, only 12 seconds behind 1st place. Really pleased to hold an even pace for the first 3km before kicking for home.

A couple of good lessons learnt today.

1 - It doesn’t matter how many triathlons you have done, you can still make silly mistakes. Have a routine and follow it ….. I have one but got thrown by someone moving my bike and snapping my elastic bands on the clip in bike shoes.

2 - Most races aren’t defined by the set backs and mistakes BUT by the way you bounce back. Things will always go wrong, especially in longer races but it’s how to mentally deal with them. Stay positive and concentrate on the next task.

3 - Stick to the race plan, have an idea of what pace you can hold. If you feel strong keep a consistent pace and then kick on the last km.

Steady ride down to the Park Run to warm up first. Really pleased with a 20:18 5km run, considering the lack of speed work over the last 8 weeks.

Got absolutely smashed off my 12yr old son Daniel, he clocked an impressive 19:14. I’ve got some work to do 😬😬

⭐️⭐️Bayside Multisport Awards ⭐️⭐️

Only went and bagged myself the Coaches award for the 22/23 season 😊

Super stoked to get this one after a lot of hard work last season, it’s the cherry on the cake after my Ironman Cairns result. Thank you Toby Somerville

First swim since finishing the IRONMAN in Cairns 🥳🥳

I’ve been struggling with a few lower back issues since the race. I decided to listened to my body for once and have taken a rest period to let the body recover from the punishment of Ironman training. I love the journey to the Ironman races, but it’s extremely hard on the body.

On a positive note, it’s been great to start some light training this week. It really helps my mental state, everything seems less of a drama.

🥳Brisbane Junior Short Course Championship 🥳

Back on supporting duties for Dan this weekend. He has qualified for 7 events over the weekend, should be a great weekend of racing.

Still not sure how these kids are so so fast 🤯

So pleased I managed to drag myself out of bed this morning. Cracking 60-min ride with Dan, loved every minute of this easy zone 2 ride.

Note to self: Make sure you make time for the things that make you happy 😊. Riding with Dan is definitely one of them ❤️

Triathlon Australia Development Coaching course.

2 Day practical training course ✅, still loading of online units and assessments to go 😬

I’m loving this new journey, although very scary from my point of view. So much new information to take onboard 😊
