📣 PARENTS — YOUR KIDS’ CLUBS NEED YOUR SUPPORT! 📣
I have to say something that has been really frustrating me lately. 🤯
The number of sporting clubs and community organisations that tell me they cannot get parents or family members to volunteer at their events is honestly shocking.
A club will come to us with a budget wanting to put on an amazing event for their kids. We work with them to try and give them the best possible package and as much entertainment as we can for their money.
Then we get to supervision…
They can’t find enough volunteers. 🤯
So suddenly they have to take money out of their entertainment budget to pay for 3 or 4 of my staff members to supervise equipment — something that, where permitted, suitable volunteers could be doing for FREE.
And believe it or not, I don’t want that extra money!
Yes, I’m probably shooting myself in the foot saying that because obviously I can make more money supplying staff. 😂
But that’s not how we work.
I would MUCH rather see that money stay in the club’s budget and go towards giving the kids more entertainment, better activities and an amazing day.
For equipment that allows volunteer supervision, it doesn’t necessarily have to be Mum or Dad either.
It could be a grandparent, adult sibling, auntie, uncle, family friend or another club supporter — anyone over 18 who is competent, responsible and able to listen to and follow the safety instructions provided.
Yet almost every club tells me the same thing:
👉 “We just can’t get volunteers.”
And I think that’s incredibly sad.
These clubs don’t magically run themselves.
The events, busy bees, fundraising, set-up, pack-down and all the other things our kids get to enjoy happen because someone gives up their time to make them happen.
It shouldn’t always fall on the same handful of parents and committee members.
You don’t have to volunteer every weekend.
You don’t have to give up your entire day.
Sometimes giving just a couple of hours at one event can save your club hundreds of dollars — money that can then be spent directly on YOUR kids.
So next time your child’s club puts a post up asking for volunteers, please don’t automatically scroll past it thinking:
“Someone else will do it.”
Because when everyone thinks that way, nobody does.
❤️ Be the parent, grandparent, friend or family member who puts their hand up.
Your couple of hours could make a much bigger difference than you realise.
Support the clubs that support our kids. 🙌❤️
