🏉 What a season, Jack! 💙❤️

Jack played his first season of AFL, stepping out in the Under 15s. With Warwick Redbacks unable to field an Under 15s team this season, Jack joined University to get out on the field and give AFL a go.

Each week, we saw Jack’s confidence, skills and development grow, and it has been fantastic watching him improve throughout the season.

Unfortunately, his team didn’t make the finals, but Jack can be very proud of the progress he made and the effort he put in throughout his first season. We’re looking forward to seeing him take another step forward next year! 👏

It has been great watching all our juniors grow and develop throughout the season. We’re so proud of what they have achieved and can’t wait to see what they can accomplish next year. 🌟🏉

Well done, Jack, on a fantastic first season! 💙❤️

Redbacks Juniors Ready for AFLDD Finals! 🔴🔵

It’s finals time, and the Warwick Redbacks will be proudly cheering on Izack, Scarlett, MJ & Harvey as they take to the field this weekend in the U13.5 Years Mixed AFLDD competition!

All four players began their pre-season with the Redbacks, but with Warwick unable to field a side, they joined the University Cougars for the season — and what a season it has been! The Cougars finished second on the ladder and have earned a spot in the second semi-final against the Toowoomba Tigers.

The Tigers currently hold a narrow 2–1 advantage from their three meetings this season, setting up another exciting contest as the Cougars look to turn the tables when it matters most. 💪

🔴 Izack has impressed in his first season, spending most of the year in the backline and regularly keeping opponents quiet with his composure in defence.

⚡ Scarlett has made her mark on the wing, using her pace and strong tackling to become an important part of the team throughout the season.

💪 MJ has shown plenty of versatility, playing both forward and back while continuing to improve, compete and show determination every week.

🔥 Harvey has had a dominant season in the centre, consistently picking up plenty of disposals after making the move from pre-season with the seniors to the University juniors.

With all four players enjoying strong seasons, the Warwick Redbacks will be watching proudly as they take on the Tigers in what promises to be an exciting semi-final!

🔴🔵 ROUND 17 MATCH REPORT

University Cougars 14.10 (94) def. Criterion Hotel Warwick Redbacks 7.4 (46)

The Criterion Hotel Warwick Redbacks wrapped up their 2026 season on Saturday, falling by 48 points to the top of the table University Cougars after a five goal final quarter blew open what had been a cracking contest.

For the opening three quarters, the Redbacks produced some of their best football of the season, moving the ball quickly, linking up through the middle and looking dangerous at ground level inside 50.

University burst from the blocks with the opening two goals inside four minutes before Augustus Macdade steadied the Redbacks with their first.

From there, the Red and Blue took charge. Noah Hunter found Connor Lloyd with a crisp handball before Lloyd finished brilliantly on the run from 65 metres out. Sam Wall then pounced on a loose ball and snapped truly over his shoulder, before Denillio Lim drilled one home to send the Redbacks crowd into a frenzy.

Glen Cruda darted through the Cougars’ defence to open the second quarter before Lim bobbed up for his second. University responded strongly, however, taking an eight point advantage into the main break.

Wall’s second goal brought the Redbacks back within a kick, but missed opportunities proved costly from there. The Cougars eventually showed why they sit on top of the ladder, kicking the final seven goals of the match, including five unanswered in the last quarter, to run away with the win.

Steven Grogan was outstanding across the ground with a team high 27 disposals and 10 marks, while Macdade was strong in the air and provided plenty of drive with 25 disposals and six marks.

Through the midfield, Tyhe Clarkson finished with 24 disposals and eight clearances, while Sam Wall capped off a strong afternoon with 22 disposals and two goals. Lloyd 17 disposals and a goal, was another workhorse through the middle, linking well with Clarkson and Zac Wall to give the Redbacks plenty around the contest.

Playing his 100th senior game, captain Anthony Rixon was inspirational in defence, collecting 22 disposals and six marks while shutting down the Cougars’ leading goal kicker and continually creating play from the back half.

There were also encouraging signs from first year players Lim and Hunter. Lim was dangerous forward with two goals, while Hunter continued to find himself in good positions and linked play with clean hands.

While the final margin got away late, the Redbacks showed for three quarters that their best football can challenge the competition’s benchmark.

The final siren brings the season to a close for both the Redbacks men and women as the club turns its attention towards season 2027.

🔴🔵 Thank you to everyone who pulled on the Red and Blue, coached, volunteered, sponsored and supported the Redbacks throughout 2026.

🔴 100 SENIOR GAMES ANTHONY RIXON 🔵

This Saturday at Redbacks Oval, our skipper Anthony Rixon will proudly pull on the red and blue for his 100th senior game for the Warwick Redbacks!

Rixo made his senior debut in 2018 and across nine seasons has become one of the most dedicated Redbacks, both on and off the field.

Now in his second season as captain of the Men’s team, Rixo leads exactly the way he plays, putting his body on the line, attacking every contest and never asking a teammate to do something he wouldn’t do himself. His courage and commitment each week continue to inspire those around him.

He’s hard-nosed, uncompromising and never takes a backward step on the field, but anyone who knows Rixo knows that off it, he’s genuinely one of the nicest blokes you’ll meet.

His contribution to the club extends well beyond game day. Rixo has also served as Club Secretary for the past four years, giving countless hours behind the scenes and showing just how much the Redbacks mean to him.

There couldn’t be a better setting for the milestone, with Rixo leading the boys onto Redbacks Oval this Saturday for the final game of the season.

Get down, get around the skipper and help us celebrate a fantastic achievement!

Congratulations on 100 games, Rixo! 💯🔴🔵

The Criterion Hotel Warwick Redbacks return home to take on the University Cougars in the final game of their 2026 Allied Cup campaign!

The Cougars got the better of the Redbacks by 72 points when the sides last met at USQ, but the boys created plenty of opportunities that day without getting the reward on the scoreboard.

This time it’s our deck, our crowd and one last chance to finish the season with a bang!

And there’s no shortage of motivation…

CAPTAIN ANTHONY “RIXO” RIXON plays his 100th SENIOR GAME!

The skipper reaches the ton in front of the Redbacks faithful, and the boys will be fired up to make sure his milestone is one to remember!
