The 2026 Logan Fixtures Finals season 2 finished off with a bang playing the Finals at Qld Tennis Centre. . The Canterbury Taipans once again did us proud picking up several titles and the number of teams we had in the playoffs was super. A picture is worth a thousand words and so these gorgeous captured moments tell of an endless tennis memory, one that our students will cherish for a lifetime. Many thanks to Paul and Cameron for organising such a special Finals at QTC who hosted, and to all the parents who were patient through the mild weather. I think all who experienced this today were winners and hence grinners. Canterbury Taipans is fast becoming the Happiest Tennis club in all of South Brisbane. This weekend we hosted the annual Canterbury All Girls Age Championships J125 Tournament as we have done for so many years now and I think we had one of the biggest number of players entered this year showing great growth in this event. The matches were of a really high quality and we were very lucky to have Phil Waight a good friend of mine and the head of Tennis Qld Officiating come help us out on short notice to oversee our matches making sure everything went smoothly. Due to the new regulation that Junior tournaments are not allowed to play more than 7 matches per court per day rule we had to shorten the format a bit to make sure matches did not go over 7pm at night. This is why we had to abandon the last few matches due to rain as it would mean our event would go past the 7pm deadline. This is child safe guarding initiative and although it was disappointing some important matches like the 16u Final and dubs finals couldn’t get played we were working within the new governing rules of Tennis Qld. For Open tournaments this rule does not apply of course.

It was great to see catch up with some old friends like Htoo Kyaw, coach and father of Thida, Nono used to play with Thida’s big sister Tin Mar when they played juniors and it was super to see Thida doing so well, in my opinion the best tennis player of this tournament by quite a bit in terms of her technique and what she was able to do on the court. Well done to Thida and good luck to the rest of 2026. The highlight of our tournament was definitely seeing our very own Adina Baclay win the 12u tier 2 title, her very first yellow ball tournament so well done Adina . Fighting back in the second set with grit and winning your first yellow ball Final like that will serve you well for confidence as you transition into the big girls league. A big shout out to Cameron Macready who was outstanding as tournament director and managing so many matches ( 156 matches in 2 day) and having to deal with withdrawls, late shows, tier changes, doubles partner changes etc is no easy task and I think Cameron did a marvellous job. There was a little incident between 2 tennis parents which I’m glad I defused but it goes to remind us all that tennis is just a game and our kids will have more fun if tennis parents do less intervening. Personally I don’t even watch Nono and Michael’s matches anymore not really close up anyway a glance here and there is all you need. Giving our tennis players a lot of space to hone their craft is essential. Adding pressure never helps results. J125 are one of the highest junior tournaments in Australia and so there is quite a lot at stake in terms of points to be gained and recognition from National and state coaches if you win so I am very proud that Canterbury Taipans can host such a prestigious tournament each year and I’m confident next year will be even bigger😃

Another amazing tournament, our 2026 Canterbury Taipans Green Ball Championships was better than ever. The boys played first and the tennis on showcase was spectacular. Big Congrats to Michael Roberts taking out Gold, Ollie Brown Finalist and Danny Bubach a close second Runner Up. Well done to Alex Voinea Smyth picking up Maccas Sportsmanship Award good onya mate:) Ollie Brown in grade 3 displayed super tennis taking out good grade 6 yellow baller Michael so super effort to Ollie who has excelled at Canterbury Tournaments every year, Ollie is a great example of what daily commitment to the game can produce. Teddy Zafiris and Finn Dietrich's match was one highlight of the boys draw. Other notable performances by our boys Carter, Dyzer, Viaan, Alexandru and Michael all showed flashes of brilliance in their games. The girls were also amazing and played beautiful tennis throughout the day. Congratulations to Emme Li our Champion this year a tough lefty. Adina Baclay Finalist another great result this winter and Charlotte Christie whose overall technique and forehand was inspiring. Well done to Maggie Gomez earning the Macca's Sportsmanship Award for the girls. Our Canterbury Taipans Girls Janiah, Lana, Chelsea, and Zohal played wonderful tennis winning several great matches against good opponents in the tournament and did well against girls who already play 12u yellow ball division. Thank you to all parents, grand parents, family, coaches, who came out to support and wishing you all the best in the rest of the Tennis calendar. Gday CC Taipans Tennisland Family, Winter break is almost over, wishing you all had a wonderful time. Here are some happy snaps so far from this year's cold season. Some of our top juniors played in the annual Rod Laver State Championships and had a blast. Although most of you were away on trips some players like Dakota made the most of our Winter lessons and hit 67 shots in one rally to win the 67 game well done Dakota:) Our mighty Crystals Team and Cool Kids team played lots of tennis and improving big time especially transitioning to the net in our Obsedian game. Nono did very well in a few tournies and now has reached a UTR high of 8.12 meaning she is eligible to play more pro tournaments. Well done Nono. Coach Leah went down to Melbourne to play a 3k and did quite well also climbing her UTR. Cameron went to see Pearl Jam last night, how lucky mate wish I could've seen Eddie Vedder live. Tayla went snowboarding near hometown Wagga a true Blues origin supporter 😒😃 John an 82 year young tennis mate of mine is starting adult fixtures with Nelson this season we got 5 adult teams now and over 20 junior fixtures teams competing for Taipans so extremely excited about that. Our Tuesday night adult Cardio squad is going strong and Jacob and Cameron will keep you from getting cold that's for sure. As for me well haven't been getting much sleep watching late night Wimbledon matches, I'm a workaholic what can I say, Tennis is my passion and I love studying the game and been doing so since 1984 and I'm still learning😃

Our very own Canterbury student and TAS player Joshua Brass is currently competing for Australia in Belgium at the 2026 Junior World Cup. Josh is doing amazing this year and all the extra training with his coach Drew is definitely paying off. Josh will also be battling it out in Japan for titles with the best in the world coming up in July so wishing him all the best in that trip also and Congratulations to Josh for being selected in the National team what an honour it is to play in the Green and Gold. Keep up the great work Josh 🎉🎾🏆

Our TAS Boys did us proud today against a tough Ormiston side. Our senior Open A Team narrowly went down by a couple of games at 3 sets all. Ormiston Boys were last year's premier so this result is very encouraging. Ollie, William, George and Lachlan H had memorable wins in singles and Jordan, William, Lachlan C and Ryan plus Ollie and Finn had great wins in doubles. The wind was strong and conditions very tricky and Lachlan C played someone who only hit ambidextrous forehands which was amazing to watch. Our intermediates fought hard but it just wasn't their day and that's tennis, special mention goes out to Leon who played a terrific match. Overall a great morning of tennis and looking forward to playing St Pauls next week.

Last Saturday Canterbury Boy Tas teams played St Columbans at their home courts, and our boys won all 6 divisions which is super. We need to thank our parents who flipped and supported us with a number of players withdrawing so late. We do have to know that other students stepped up. We have parents who allowed us to be successful and travelled for us at the last moment. Our players also played better as teams, despite weather affecting training and followed directions to apply effort and communication after last week.

Despite the weather forecast, we played all games. Our Intermediate teams won all divisions. Our team in the first Intermediates won by 5 sets to 1 and 32 games to 14. Lachlan (6-0), Ryan (6-0), and Haemeru (6-4) won their singles. Phoenix, importantly, won two games. We spoke about this-points and games. Both doubles pairs won.

Our Intermediate two team won by 5 sets to 1 and 32 games to 18. George (6-1), Viraj (7-5), and Coda (6-2) won their singles. Finn was so good stepping up to this team. Both doubles pairings won by 6 games to 2. The boys steadied, improved serves, and improved their communications. They took on feedback and adjusted their play.

Unbelievably, with all the shuffling today, our Intermediate 3 team lifted and won by 6 sets to love and 36 games to 12. We must thank Hayden so much for being part of this team. He took his opportunity and won by 6 games to 1. Michael (6-3), Lawson (6-0), and Kai (6-4) also won their singles. Both doubles pairings won by 6 games to 2 games. These boys improved their serves and movement around the court.

After the disappointment of last week, not playing to our best, our Senior boys also completed a clean sweep. We know this is a difficult competition for them this year and the weather has not been kind. The boys were asked to make a better effort and they delivered. It is also so important to note that many of our players were there early to support and help our Intermediate players. This is the culture that we are developing as a team and leads to lifelong skills. Shubham, our captain of tennis is outstanding with this, as are our Senior players. This is impressive this year. We are continuing to build this culture.

Our wonderful Senior IV won by 5 sets to 1 and 37 games to 17. The match of the day was Shabham versus Cameron. Gosh! What a match. These two players served well, returned well and just ran down all balls. What we loved about Shabham, was making sure of the second serve, taking pace off returns, some attacking volleys and fitness on the court. He is a role model. Our other boys won singles-Lachlan (7-6), Jordan (6-0), and William (6-1). Both doubles pairs won. It is so great to see Jordan finally recovering from a debilitating injury and working so hard and to keep turning up. Jordan had such an impressive game today, showcasing his skills. Well done this team for working together and making decisions as a team.

Our Senior 2 team continue to be stars. They work hard and have notable talent and always turn up at training. They are capable and understand how they can reflect and improve. They won all singles matches- Kunj (6-1), Henry (6-0), Cooper (6-3), and Oliver (6-0). These boys work as a Canterbury College team and understand culture and work together, although they are a number 1 team. Both teams won their doubles. Shubham shows his commitment in the photo below this wonderful team.

Well, it gets better. Our Senior 3 team were compromised today. Enter Lenox, William, Mikael, and Gursewak. Wow! What a team of determined young men. They all won their singles and doubles matches. They won by 6 sets to 0 and 36 games to 6. These boys worked hard. They were determined to improve their serves and returns. The doubles combinations worked so well.

Josh, we missed you today, but congratulations on being in the Australian team. We wish you all the best.

All, it takes every single player to turn up, compete and provide energy and to communicate.

We will take the win, celebrate and aim to improve before taking on Ormiston next week.

Parents, thank you so much! It was a bit of a difficult weekend with teams.

We need to train so hard next week. We will focus on each team and what we need to do.

Boys, thank you for your tremendous effort today, reflecting and improving. It is not as easy as it looks. Hopefully, there is no interrupted training this week and we can further learn before next week. Thank you also for your better teamwork. It takes a whole team to win and understand the efforts of all players.

A beautiful day of tennis for our Canterbury Crystals stars Chelsea and Lana, the 2 future WTA juniors competed in the 2026 Gold Coast Orange Ball Circuit – Hinterland. Congratulations to Chelsea who was Runner Up and Lana 2nd Runner up. There were many long and carefully executed rallies and all the matches they played were of an extremely high level in really tough competition so well done to Lana and Chelsea you 2 super stars in the making.🎉🏆🎾😃

There are some things more precious than pots of gold, tennis rainbow memories never get old. To those playing fixtures tomorrow goodluck and more importantly have fun competing with good sportsmanship. Let's Go Taipansssss 😃🎾🎉
