We're back for another term of Kung Fu at Kung Fu Blue Mountains!

We're looking forward to welcoming our students back to the kwoon for more learning, challenges, laughter and plenty of moments like this one. šŸ˜„

Our Kids Kung Fu programmes help children aged 4–15 develop confidence, concentration, discipline and coordination, while learning traditional martial arts in a supportive environment.

New students are welcome throughout the term, and there's no better way to discover what Kung Fu is all about than experiencing a class.

Staying Calm When It Really Matters

Most of us know we should stay calm when things get difficult. But when we're frustrated, under pressure or faced with something unexpected, it's not always easy.

It's one thing to understand how we should respond. It's another to actually do it.

In Kung Fu, we encounter this challenge regularly. Training gives us opportunities to recognise unnecessary tension, become more aware of our reactions and practise responding rather than simply reacting.

Over time, these are qualities we can begin to carry beyond the training hall, into the challenges of everyday life.

But how do we turn something we understand into something we can actually apply when it matters?

That's what I explore in my latest Skool post, Knowing It Isn't the Same as Doing It.

If you're interested in how traditional martial arts can help us develop greater awareness, composure and self-control, I'd welcome you to join the conversation in our free Skool community.

šŸ„‹ Term 4 Kids Kung Fu Starts Monday, 19 October!

The school holidays are nearly over, and we're looking forward to welcoming our young martial artists back to the kwoon for another term of training!

Whether they're taking their first steps in Kung Fu or continuing to develop their skills, each term brings new opportunities to learn, practise and grow.

Through age-appropriate training, our students develop more than physical skills. They build confidence, concentration, discipline and respect while learning to challenge themselves and support one another.

Our Kids Kung Fu programmes cater for children aged 4–15, from our youngest Pandas through to our Juniors.

New students are welcome! If you've been considering martial arts for your child, we'd love to introduce you to Kung Fu Blue Mountains.

šŸ„‹ The Art of Being a Good Bad Guy (or Girl 😊)

Being a good martial artist isn't just about performing techniques. It's also about knowing how to help your training partners improve.

Sometimes that means being a good bad guy!

A good training partner understands when to cooperate, when to resist and when to introduce pressure.

Cooperation helps us learn new skills and understand how techniques work.

Resistance reveals weaknesses and encourages us to make adjustments.

Controlled pressure challenges our timing, awareness and ability to apply what we've learnt.

Each has its place. The real skill is recognising what your partner needs and providing the right level of challenge.

Sometimes being a good martial artist means helping someone else become a better one.

I've shared the full discussion in our free Skool community. Come and join the conversation!

šŸ„‹ Kung Fu That Grows With Them

As children grow, their Kung Fu should grow with them.

Term 4 enrolments are now open for Juniors Kung Fu at Kung Fu Blue Mountains.

Our Juniors programme is the next stage of the Kids Kung Fu pathway. As students mature, the training becomes more challenging and they begin taking greater responsibility for their own development.

They continue building their martial arts skills while developing the qualities behind them: awareness, control, discipline, confidence and the ability to work more independently.

Our Juniors are all at different stages of their training, but they train together, learn from each other and have a good time doing it.

If your child is ready for the next step, come and experience our class with a free trial.

Term 4 Kids Kung Fu Enrolments Are Now Open! šŸÆšŸ‰

There’s plenty happening in our Tigers & Dragons classes!

As children progress through Kung Fu, the training grows with them. They develop their martial arts skills while learning to concentrate, work with others, challenge themselves and keep going when something doesn’t come easily.

Our Tigers focus on developing confidence and courage, while our Dragons continue that journey through discipline and perseverance.
And while there’s plenty to learn, there’s still plenty of room to have fun along the way.

Term 4 Tigers & Dragons classes begin Monday 19 October, 2026.

If you’re looking for an activity that will challenge your child physically and mentally while helping them develop confidence, discipline and practical skills, come and experience a class at Kung Fu Blue Mountains in Wentworth Falls.

Little Pandas, Big Achievements!

There's never a dull moment with our Kung Fu Pandas!

Our youngest students learn through movement, games and age-appropriate Kung Fu activities that help them develop concentration, coordination, confidence and respect for others.

Along the way, they make friends, celebrate their achievements and discover just how much they're capable of.

Our Term 4 Pandas classes begin on Wednesday 21 October, and we'd love to welcome some new faces to the kwoon.

If you're looking for an activity that helps your child grow while having fun, come and experience a free trial lesson at Kung Fu Blue Mountains in Wentworth Falls.

I bought these gloves around 1999. They were my very first pair of martial arts gloves, and I still use them today.

I remember the martial arts shop I bought them from wouldn't sell you a black gi or a black belt unless you could prove you'd earned it. Things were a little different at that shop back then!

The headguard came along much later, around 2013, but it was also my first piece of protective headgear. Up until then, protecting our heads wasn't something we'd given much thought to. Let's just say we were highly motivated not to get hit!

Both have been with me through plenty of training, different training partners and more lessons than I could count.

A lot has changed over the years. My training has evolved, my understanding has deepened, and I've had the opportunity to pass on what I've learned to others.

But I'm still learning, and these two old pieces of equipment are still earning their keep in the kwoon.

Sometimes it's interesting to look back at where you started and realise just how much of the journey is still ahead of you.

Is martial skill enough?

Martial arts training can make us more capable.

We become stronger, more coordinated and better able to deal with pressure. We learn how to move, how to protect ourselves and how to respond when things become difficult.

But skill by itself isn’t really the whole point.

As our ability grows, so should our judgement, awareness and self-control.

Knowing how to act is one thing. Knowing when to act, how much is necessary, and when not to act at all is another.

That’s where martial arts becomes more than technique.

Skill matters. But so does the person developing it.

šŸ„‹ If you’d like to explore that for yourself, come and train with us at Kung Fu Blue Mountains.

Practise Baduanjin with me.

I’ve just added a complete guided practice of Baduanjin Set 1 to The First Step, our free classroom in the Kung Fu Blue Mountains community on Skool.com.

Baduanjin is a traditional Qigong practice made up of eight sets, with each set containing a series of movements.

In this guided practice I introduce the first set, break down the movements, then take you through the complete practice so you can follow along with me.

No previous Qigong or martial arts experience is needed. Find yourself a little space and give it a try.
