We’re getting closer…

Our end-of-year showcase is coming up, which means classes are starting to have a little extra buzz about them.

There’s choreography to remember, formations to practise and plenty of “Can we do it again?” moments.

We can’t wait for families to see what the dancers have been working on.

Still hoping to see your child on stage this year? There’s still time to join us for Term 4! Get in touch to find a class that’s the right fit for your dancer. 🩷❤️

This is the part we love seeing. 🩷❤️

A dancer who walks into class knowing exactly where to stand.
A friend waiting for them at the door.
A teacher who knows their name.
A routine they now know almost without thinking.

The little things add up over a year.

How much does your child look forward to dance?

A little bittersweet seeing our dancers taking part in workshops in the very same studio where I used to dance during high school.

So many years later, and now I get to watch the next generation of dancers experience that same room in a completely different way. 🤍

Today our dancers were at The McDonald College K - 12, for the Royal Academy of Dance Australia Spring Intensive, and it was pretty special to watch them learn, work hard and make memories in a place that holds so many of my own alongside the teaching from Miss Debra Whitten.

Full circle moments like this are pretty special.

From cosy PJs to plenty of dancing, we loved seeing everyone come to class a little more comfortable than usual!

What's the best age to start dance?

Parents often ask me:

“What is the best age to start dance?”

And honestly?

There isn't one magic age.

Some children love movement from toddlerhood.

Some aren't interested until they're five or six.

Some don't discover dance until they're much older.

And that's completely okay.

The more useful question isn't:

“Is my child too old?”

It's:

“Is there a class that suits their age, experience and stage of learning?”

That's what we look at.

Because a six-year-old beginner shouldn't be expected to walk into a class and behave like they've been dancing since they were three.

And a twelve-year-old beginner doesn't need to be put in a preschool class simply because they're new.

There's usually a place to start.

If you're unsure where your child would fit, send us a message.

A five-year-old and a fifteen-year-old might both be learning ballet.

That doesn't mean they should be taught the same way.

The instructions change.

The length of exercises changes.

The amount of detail changes.

The expectations change.

And sometimes the music changes too.

Good teaching isn't taking one lesson plan and making every group fit it.

It's knowing what you're trying to teach — then finding the best way to teach that particular group of children.

Have you ever noticed how different the same style can look across age groups?
