The Westbury Shamrocks Cricket Club is incredibly proud to continue our long-standing partnership with Shaw Contracting, who have committed as a Platinum Sponsor for the next three seasons — 2026/27 through to 2028/29.

Shaw’s association with the Shamrocks stretches back more than 25 years, making them one of the club’s longest-standing and most valued supporters. Their contribution over that time has been enormous, with our home ground previously carrying the Shaw Oval name in recognition of this long-term partnership.

Shaw Contracting will continue to feature prominently on the back of our playing tops, while also maintaining their fantastic support of our women’s cricket program. They are the exclusive sponsor and supporter of our women’s team, as well as directly supporting a number of our female players through individual player sponsorships.

Their commitment has played an important part in supporting opportunities for women’s cricket at Westbury and across the club more broadly.

We wish you and your family courage, strength and peace during this difficult time of mourning.

☘️ 2026/27 CAPTAINS ANNOUNCEMENT ☘️

We’re excited to announce our 3rd Grade co-captains for the 2026/27 season — Joey Walters and Joel “Chooka” Strickland! 🏏☘️

Joey returned to the club last season after a few years away, and after getting the taste for it again, he’s back this season ready to take on a leadership role.

Joey is a lead-by-example type of player and has always been a team-first operator. His attitude, commitment and willingness to put the team before himself make him a great fit to lead the 3rd Grade side.

Joining Joey at the helm is none other than Joel “Chooka” Strickland — a true cult figure of the club who needs little introduction.

Loved by teammates, opponents and everyone around the club, Chooka has become a huge part of what makes our cricket club what it is. While this is a new role for Chooka, he brings plenty of experience, a great understanding of what makes a team tick and, most importantly, a genuine passion for his teammates and the club.

The Walters name is one we hold in very high regard at our cricket club, and with Joey and Chooka leading the way, we’re sure the 3rd Grade boys are in for a season full of plenty of laughs, good times and hopefully plenty of runs and wickets! 😂🏏

Congratulations Joey and Chooka — we’re looking forward to seeing you both lead the 3rd Grade boys in what promises to be a big 2026/27 season!

The Westbury Cricket Club are saddened to hear of the recent passing of George Shaw OAM (1st Grade Cap #30) aged 94.

George made his debut in 1951-52 against North Launceston and played in 137 first grade matches, scoring 1887 runs at an average of 16.27 including 7 half centuries and took 64 catches.

His highest score with the bat was 96 against Beaconsfield in 1961-62 where George opened the batting.

With the ball, George took 238 wickets at an average of 15.24 which included 11 five wicket hauls and a 10 wicket haul.

His best performance with the ball was 7/47 off 16 overs against Riverside in season 1970-71, leading Westbury to a 11 run victory in that match defending 148.

The 10 wicket haul came against Beaconsfield where George took 11 for 100 in season 1966-67, including 7 for 48 off 16 overs which almost got Westbury through to an outright victory on that occasion.

George was also a representative in the Legislative Council for 30 years representing Macquarie from 1968-1998 and was also President of the Legislative Council from 1988-1992.

Our thoughts are with George's extended family and friends and colleagues at this time.

☘️ 2026/27 CAPTAINS ANNOUNCEMENT ☘️

Matty Allen will once again be leading our 2nd Grade side! 🏏

Off the back of an incredible season, the club has full faith in Matty to lead the men as they chase back-to-back premierships! 🏆

Matty personifies the values of our club and continues to put his hand up wherever he is needed. Away from game day, Matty plays a huge role around the club as our President and Assistant Coach, while on game day he puts on the captaincy hat and leads from the front.

Whether it’s with bat, ball or in the field, Matty is someone who is always willing to do whatever the team needs. His experience, commitment and willingness to support those around him make him a great fit to lead the side once again.

After such a successful 2025/26 season, we’re excited to see what Matty and the 2nd Grade boys can achieve this year. Most importantly, we’re looking forward to another season of good cricket and plenty of laughs.

☘️ SHAMROCKS GOLF DAY ☘️

What a great day we had at our annual Shamrocks Golf Day! A day filled with plenty of golf, friendly banter, laughs and, most importantly, a great opportunity for everyone to get together and enjoy some bonding off the field.

Firstly, we’d like to thank Deloraine Golf Club for hosting our annual Golf Day for another year. A great golf course and an even better bunch of blokes. We’d also like to give a big shoutout to Johnny Tierney for cooking the BBQ and keeping the bar running throughout the day.

A massive thank you to all our sponsors and supporters, especially C**k'n'Bull British Pub , Spreyton C***r Co and SportsPower Launceston for generously donating prizes for the day. Without the support of our sponsors, our club simply wouldn’t be able to operate.
