Abuse is too often seen as a way to improve performance in sport.

40% of people in sport believe that physical abuse (like punching, kicking, and forced age- or physique-inappropriate training loads) can lead to better performance [1], and 27% of people believe the same about psychological abuse (like humiliation, scapegoating, threatening and ignoring someone).

We can make a change by having a clear stance against abuse in our sporting clubs, and taking action when these incidents happen.

Sometimes it can be tempting to give a bit more playing time to your star performers, but when it comes to kids sport we should prioritise participation. We want to foster a life-long love of sport, not just the league’s next MVP.
