New beginnings today.

Mikko has moved out of cadets and in the Junior class... What's the difference you ask??

A bigger engine and now in an adult chassis, which means significantly increased grip/forces on the body, speed, and about 3-4 seconds a lap faster πŸ€”

Let's goooooooooo 😎

We are getting to the pointy end of another race season and the penultimate club round of Ipswich Kart Club.

Mikko's day started off with our typical frustration. Heat 1 he was sitting comfortably in p8 but was bumped off track and couldn't get the kart restarted, resulting in a DNF.

Heat 2 didn't go much better, pushing him all the way back of the pack for Heat 3.

We have had a few niggling issues lately with his engine and setup, but with some back to basics adjustment, his Parolin was firing again and he charged through the pack from p25 to finish in p16.

For the final, our run of crappy luck continued when he was caught up in another incident, pushing him again to the back of the pack, but this time with a large gap to the group in front. Somehow he caught the pack and moved his way through to finish in p18.

A disappointing overall result, but it was a great session to work on his race craft.

For Freddy, what can I say but this kid is starting to fire (finally!!!!). This was our 4th race meet in the last 5 weeks and the practice is paying off, with new PB's every round.

The gap to the front is narrowing and we are super pumped about this, but he is still struggling with his race craft and sticking his passes. There is some work to do here but it feels great to be in the battle.

Unfortunately his day finished off in the medical room with a busted up elbow from a stack in the Final. Not the result he wanted, but thankfully nothing was broken and we can keep chipping away at these lap times.

We have a weekend off, then back at it in Toowoomba πŸ€™

Sometime life hands you lemons.

Mikko's weekend at the QLD state titles started off on the back foot, qualifying well off the pace in 43rd from 52 drivers. Perhaps a combination of lack of seat time over the past month, or inexperience with the ultra sticky track. Either way, to make the top 40 final, we knew we needed and top 20 minimum in each race to have any chance

Race 1 Mikko was a tad race rusty, being a tad overly cautious, moving from 23 to finish 20th. A post race drop down bumper penalty moved him back to 22nd 😭

Race 2, Mikko got back into gear and raced hard, but fair. Moving from p23 to finish 16th πŸ‘πŸ‘

Race 3 was the make or break race. Again Mikko was racing brilliantly moving from p23 to 18th. Unfortunately on the last lap, on the last straight, with 2 corners to go, a "banana peel" on the track spun him around Mario kart style, resulting in a DNF and destroying any chance of making the finals 🀬

Mikko was gutted, but that's racing and we learnt a lot from the entire experience. We are pumped to come back even stronger for the next race 😎😎

Well done to the Ipswich Kart Club, Karting QLD and all officials and volunteers for putting on a cracking event πŸ‘

Great weekend for the boys.

Mikko started off qualifying lower than we had hoped, with a p20 from 37 drivers. Perhaps to much jostling with mates, rather than focusing on outright lap times.

Still he worked through the pack, kept it clean to finish the day in p8 over all, and only 2 teenths off the race winner.

Results:
Heat 1: start p20, finish p17
Heat 2: start p18, finish p12
Final: Start p13, finish p8

Freddy approved his lap times once again to narrow the gap between the front runners even further.

Qualifying in P9 (from 13) he also finished the day in the same position:

Results:
Heat 1: start p9, finish p8
Heat 2: start p9, DNF
Final: Start p10, finish p9

Fred had a decent crash in heat 2, but thankfully no injuries other than some bruising.

Well done boys 🀩

Mikko Wuoti - Battle for Third : Final, Warwick Top Guns 15/04/2024

I usually condense down race videos by just editing the highlights. But the battle for 3rd in the Top Guns final was just too good to cut up.

Okay we might not have been victorious in this battle, but for those that know, Mikko had a tough year with Karting last year but a change of chassis this year has reinvigorated life back into his racing.

He is still not at the top level, but it feels sooo good to be in the race again.

The last couple laps were a nail biter, with another boy right on Mikko and Archers tail, waiting to pounce. Yet the whole time, they all kept it clean πŸ‘

Wooooooot, did someone get some silverware???? yep it was a great day at the Warwick Kart Club's Top Guns, with Freddy closing the gap to bag himself a 3rd place in Cadet 9's, and Mikko just missing out on a podium with a 4th place.

It's been about 2 years since we raced at Warwick (and Fred's first time), so it was good to be in the hunt.

Well done boys 🀩
