Match Report from Ben Shuker (Senior Men’s Coach)
Chippenham women take full advantage to start the league with a bang.
After a summer of sunshine and heat waves, Chippenham women made their way down the M4 under overcast and rainy clouds for their first league game at NC2 level after promotion last season.
With 4 debuts and 18 homegrown players in the squad, the large crowd gathered around the pitch for what promised to be a new adventure for the women of Chippenham.
Chippenham were rocked early when the impressive ho**er, for the opposition, showed a turn of pace and a clean pair of heals and made the score 5 - 0 after only 2 minutes.
Chippenham didn’t panic, regrouped after some rallying words from Clare and were soon back on the attack. Last years leading try scorer, Flo was put into half a yard of space and the electric centre did the rest. 5-5.
This gave Chippenham the green light to explode into life and my goodness did they ever.
Running in a further 16 try’s. Flo finished with 6, Lily L 2 (+a lot of cons, men’s 1s could take note), Aurora (debut) 2, Emilia 2, Lily S 3, Daisy 1, Grace 1.
A fabulous performance against a team that despite being a player down never stopped chasing and working hard. We wish them all the best for the rest of the season and look forward to the return fixture later in the season.
A huge well done to all the girls, this friendly match reporter even came out of temporary retirement to wax lyrical about today’s fine start to the new league campaign.
