It was a bittersweet conclusion to GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS at Sydney Motorsport Park 🫨

Brendon Leitch Leitch capitalised on a strong start to bring the Geyer Valmont Racing Mercedes-AMG home in second with Sergio Pires.

It was a tougher time for the pairings of Oscar Targett/Shane Smollen and Jayden Ojeda/Paul Lucchitti.

Targett and Smollen had to wear a 15-second penalty for their Saturday win. Smollen showed strong speed en route to eighth in the Shane Smollen 🇦🇺 Kollosche | Luxury Real Estate Mercedes-AMG.

Unfortunately for Ojeda and Lucchitti, a slow pit stop and handling issues consigned them to ninth in the Move My Wheels Mercedes-AMG.

Luke Youlden and Nathan Halstead were 14th overall and second in the Trophy class.

The title will be decided at the Adelaide Grand Final on November 26-29. Leitch and Pires sit third in the standings and 27 points off the lead with a maximum 52 points on offer. 

Lucchitti is mathematically a chance for the title too, 40 points off the lead.

The highs and lows of racing! 😵‍💫

Incredible result in race one of GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS with Oscar Targett and Shane Smollen 🇦🇺 taking their first win together.

Jayden Ojeda and Paul lucchitti were on course to take P2 but got given a drive-through penalty for a pit stop procedure infringement and finished P7.

Unfortunately for Brendon Leitch and Geyer Valmont Racing their car suffered a terminal engine issue after contact with the exit kerb at the final corner.

Luke Youlden and Nathan Halstead kept their nose clean to finish second in Trophy and P13 overall.
