Welcome to the Wollongong Whales Winter Swimming Club! Established in 1959, we invite all swimmers to embrace winter swimming along Wollongong's coast.
We meet on Sundays in winter with the simple format of handicapped races over 50 metres. 🐳 About the Wollongong Whales
The Wollongong Whales were the first winter swimming club in the Illawarra thanks to the vision of John Prentice. Moving to the Illawarra to manage a tailor’s shop, Prentice had swum for one of the five Sydney clubs—the Maroubra Dolphins and was struck by the absence of a club in

The Memorial Trophy commemorates a number of past members who made special contributions to the Wollongong Whales and is a highly sought after trophy in the club. Congratulations to Darcy Crane on taking out the trophy this year.

G'day Whales,
Sunday 26th July The Bill Seay 1000 trophy was held down at the continental pool. Bill was the first Whale to swim over 1000 winter season swims, a truly remarkable accomplishment. In honour of the great man, the format of the trophy is a 1v1 knock out, with the winner of each race swimming on until only one man is left.
Congratulations to this year's winner of the trophy James Worthington, proudly presented by club President Kev Anger.

Big thankyou to the Vikings Rugby Union Club & Wollongong city surf club for coming down to the pool and competing against us in the relay. Fees for opening day is $30 (cash or card) this is your annual registration fee, and your swim fee for the day. You will receive a free opening day Whales t-shirt after payment has been made.
Registration is from 9am on pool deck.
