PROGRESS WEEK: TUMBLE & TSL
When we think about progress in Tumble and TSL, it’s easy to focus on the big skills — but there is so much more happening behind the scenes! 🩷
Before an athlete can safely and confidently perform a new skill, they need to develop the strength, flexibility, coordination, body awareness, technique and confidence that supports it.
🤸🏼♀️ Strength & conditioning
Building the strength needed to control movements, support body weight and generate power is an important part of learning new skills.
🧠 Body awareness
Athletes are learning where their body needs to be throughout each movement. Understanding shapes, positions and timing helps create safe and consistent skills.
✨ Technique & foundations
Drills and progressions may not always look like the finished skill, but they are teaching the important pieces that eventually come together. Strong foundations help athletes progress safely and consistently.
💪🏼 Confidence
Trying something new can be scary! Building trust in yourself, your coach and your own abilities is a huge part of progression.
🔁 Repetition
Skills aren’t mastered after doing them once. Repeating movements helps athletes develop muscle memory, consistency and control.
And sometimes, progress looks like going backwards before moving forwards. A coach might return an athlete to a simpler drill or skill to improve their technique and strengthen their foundations — and that is still progress!
We want our athletes to understand that progress isn’t about comparing yourself to the person next to you. It’s about becoming a little stronger, more confident and more capable than you were yesterday.
