you simply cant but love YAKS! Yaks originated in Tibet and have spread throughout Mongolia, Bhutan, Nepal, China, and the Indian Himalayas
Yaks have been on earth for over 2 million years and were domesticated at least 4 thousand years ago for their wool, milk, leather, horns & meat ~ but i just adore then for their s**g, their chunky & out of proportion body, their big soft noses and their huge dark eyes ππ
Yaks can live in high altitude places because they have extra large lungs (and extra ribs) to breathe easily in thin air, they can live in very cold places because they have think long coats and they can walk on ice with their wide split hooves
yaks donβt moo - they grunt, they can swim, they have a double coat, and both wild and domestic yaks can live up to 20 yrs+
driving around Mongolia you can see hundreds of yaks of all different colours, just lolling on the road, munching grass, and drinking in streams
babies stay with their mothers and there are no fences to pen them in until night time when they are herded back in for their safety
early every morning yaks are milked by hand with baby close by. baby yaks drink mums milk first, then a small amount is expressed into a bucket, then baby has mum the rest of the day, until the afternoon milking
Mongolians use the milk to make salted tea, yoghurt, cheese, dried curd, butter & milk vodka
in Mongolia yaks are sometimes crossed with cows to make a smaller mix breed bovine that produces more milk and is a little easier to manage
yaks would have to be one of my favourite animals but no, im not getting one because in Australia you cantβ¦probably a good thing tbh!!!
join me on my next yoga retreat and see the world through the lens of a new culture, enjoy authentic up close experiences, visit sacred and spiritual places, explore spectacular nature, meet local people, and practice yoga & meditation ππΌππΌποΈπΈ

discovering sacred places together in Mongolia π«
i think its safe to say we are all in awe of Mongolias ancient culture, of the way the Mongolians live in such reverence for their land and its creatures, and of the magnificence of Mongolias landscapes
yesterday we visited my favourite temple, hidden between the mountains. once a thriving monastery, it was home to over a thousand Tibetan Buddhist monks, until in the 16th c it was invaded from the east - the monasteries destroyed and monks killed. it was rebuilt and survived again until the 1930s when during the Soviet occupation it was again attacked, most of the temples destroyed and many monks killed.
the 2 remaining temples and numerous stupas are surrounded by ruins
during our visit the resident lamaβs mother invited us into her home for lunch, we climbed to the temple, and spent time in meditation
the monastery was established in dedication to Guru Rinpoche, Padmasambhava, the father of Tibetan Buddhism
OM AH HUNG VAJRA GURU PEME SIDDHI HUNG
the 12-syllable Guru Mantra of Padmasambhava. this mantra replaces negative emotions with awakened compassionate wisdom, offers protection against negative energies & pays reverence to spiritual teachers

yin yoga ποΈπ«Άπ½ποΈ
i remember the first time i practiced yin yoga- i was used to practicing strong dynamic asana so when i tried yin i found it so challenging to be still and let the posture find my body rather than pushing my body into the asana. i battled myself for a couple of years, but i kept returning to the practice because i always felt so much better in the days that followed πππ
now, yin yoga would have to be one of my favourite practices - i just cant wait to give my body and mind the spaciousness that only yin can gift. coming to my mat knowing ive set aside time to nourish and soften, to press pause on yesterday and tomorrow and to wander through my inner world without force or judgement π«
yin welcomes you, very gently, just as you are. it is the perfect practice for busy people, for athletes, for tired physical bodies, for overworked minds, for beginners, for men, for anyone feeling tense, wired, tired, drained, or simply needing some worthwhile βme timeβ π€
yin yoga invites you to
stop pushing
stop demanding
stop competing
stop needing
stop craving
stop judging
stop doubting

Guru Purnima ππππ«Άπ½
welcome to the heart of the guru π€π©·π€
Guru Purnima, an auspicious day in the Hindu calendar, honours spiritual teachers & mentors that help guide you and positively influence your life
the word Guru literally means βremover of darknessβ. In this way we can think of the darkness as ignorance and can say a guru is someone who guides you from ignorance to wisdom
purnima is the full moon day and is a sacred day for devotional prayers, offerings, and acts of generosity and kindness
on this day yogis all around the world sit in practice and prayer dedicated to the teachers that share wisdom with them and in acknowledgement of the lineages of those wisdom teachings. Guru Purnima takes us all the way back to Adiyogi - the day Lord Shiva became the first yogi, and to acknowledge the birth date of Veda Vyasa the revered compiler of the Vedas & author of the epic Mahabharata and other important scriptures ποΈ
spiritual practice can present many questions and challenges to seekers, and the path can be muddy and confusing if you choose to go alone. if you are open to receive the guidance and wisdom of a true teacher, the path opens & illuminates with clarity and joy πΊ
