The Corrimal Cougars RLFC have secured their first Harrigan Motor Group Cup minor premiership in 37 years, capping a dramatic final round of the regular season with a hard-fought 20–16 victory over Sutherland Loftus United JRLFC on Sunday afternoon.

Corrimal entered the final game of Round 15 knowing victory would be enough to take top spot after defending premiers Wests Devils Football Club opened the door with a 16–8 upset of fellow minor premiership contenders Thirroul Butchers on Saturday.

The Cougars made the most of the opportunity, holding off a determined Pirates outfit to finish the regular season on top of the ladder and claim their first minor premiership since 1989.

There was another tight finish between Collegians Senior Football League and Dapto Canaries , with Collies prevailing 30–26 to build some timely momentum heading into the playoffs.

The Illawarra Steelers hopes of making the finals have had one more hurdle added after a 34-12 loss against the Penrith Panthers in Round 9 of the NSWRL Women’s Premiership at Croome Regional Sporting Complex on Saturday.

After slipping from third to sixth on the ladder, the Steelers now face a do-or-die final round clash against the ladder-leading Knights in Newcastle on Saturday. With finals hopes on the line, only a win will keep Illawarra’s campaign alive.
