The Boys had a great time today at Hurricane Go Kart Club, Harry had a mischief in heat three so he didn’t make the final but still got enough points for second place. Jack was in a field of 18 and came 15th over all.

Proud of the boys journey, we are all leaning every race.

Last weekend was our first time at Bunbury City Kart Club and the boys got lots of practice laps on Friday familiarizing themselves with the track.

We had some issues with Jackos kart and one of the fellow kart racing parents went above and beyond to help us with problem solving and playing around with the Carby, it helped but it didn’t fix the issue so we swapped the motor at the end of the day and boy did it get dark quick 🤣🤣 we were working with head torches and got it sorted.

The change made a difference and Jack had a good start to race day on Saturday.

Both boys did well during their second ever race meeting and around lunch time the heavens opened and the boys got a chance to drive in the rain for the first time! Jacko did awesome and ended up finishing ahead of a couple of other cadets and Harry had some issues that saw him finish the day early.

It was a hell of a pack up in heavy rain and we were soaked by the end of it!!

I love seeing the boys learn new things, meet new friends and we really appreciate the help and support from the other family’s!!

So proud of Team Van Daele today!

We were all full of nerves, freezing fu***ng cold and yet still had a ripper day.

The team Hurricane Go Kart Club ran an awesome day and the other families were all around to help.

Harry, whilst running in a small field in his class came off with a #1 podium with the outright win for day and Jack had a ripper day also!

They were VERY nervous and not up to the lap times of there past practices but there was a lot to learn and think about today!

With a combination of there second only set of new tyres and a super cold slippery track led to a couple of pirouettes from Harry but no off’s for Jacko!

Mum and dad did a lot of running around and the guidance from our awesome Go Kart Dad, spiritual advisor, and honorary team principal Justin was invaluable!!

Next race will be at Lake King, which I’m told will be even colder 🥶😱

Jack set his Personal best at Hurricane Go Kart Club today with Tyres that have done at least 200 laps!!

And Harry was just a 1/10th of his PB with the same # of laps on his Tyres!

I cannot wait to watch their first race! Will the win, no. Will they drive courteously and have a blast, they sure will!

Proud of their go karting journey and cannot wait for them to have their first race at there home track!

The 3d printer has been printing like crazy getting all of the components put together for the boys Wind Simulators for their racing sims.

We had a number of prototype parts including the front fan design.

Once we picked the best mounting location, and shape of the front cone we printed the parts in Harry’s favourite colour Blue and Jacks, Yellow.

We ordered some ARGB fans to sync the colours with their PC’s, I did put a switch on the control box so when they are practicing or racing seriously they can turn the lights off, but when they are having a blast in Forza Horizon they can have the fans going crazy.

The ARGB fans were a bit of work, and still are yet to work faultless the onboard RGB controller is already at capacity so I need to fine an alternate controller that i can get to sync with the onboard unit. I cut a USB A extension cable and fitted the female end into the back of the PC wired to the on board controller and used the other end to connect the control box.

The fans are run by an Arduino Uno and Motorshield being contolled by Simhub software. They vary their speed to match the speed of the car being driven.

The boys each helped with parts of the project, which was a buzz!

Next we have to build a LCD Dashboard for them and also add some tactile transducers (butt kickers) under the seats and on the pedals to give them better feeling of braking and more realistic (and fun) experience.

At least it’s cooler in the house than the garage at this time of the year!

Thank god for my magnifying glass and light, the old eyes are not what they once were and this was very thin cable.
