No Aikido this Sunday
No aikido class at Wynnum on Sunday 31 May. Iai will be on as normal from 7.00am.

From today’s lesson:
One of the things I believe is very important, is maintaining good posture with proper core engagement and a strong center line through the body.

Good posture helps release unnecessary tension.
It not only makes both standing and sitting posture appear more graceful and beautiful, but also helps reduce fatigue and can prevent shoulder stiffness and lower back pain.

When your posture improves, your breathing naturally becomes deeper. Deeper breathing can lead to better quality sleep, and deep sleep helps the body restore and rebalance itself.

I hope you will incorporate this not only into tea practice, but also into your everyday life 😊

私が思う大切なことの１つ。
それは体幹を使って身体に軸が入る良い姿勢。

良い姿勢は無駄な力が抜け、立ち姿や座り姿が美しく見えるだけでなく、疲れにくく、肩こりや腰痛の予防にも繋がります。

良い姿勢になることで、呼吸が深くなります。
呼吸が深くなると、深い睡眠ができるようになります。
深い睡眠は身体が整うことに繋がります。

是非、茶道以外の普段の生活にも取り入れていただきたいです😊

This is the first anniversary of the passing of our Aikido Teacher, Katsuyuki Shimamoto. At this time our thoughts go to Sensei's family, our Shosenji Dojo friends, and Sensei's Shoryukai international students. A beautiful article written by Shimamoto Shihan that appeared in the Aikido Tankyu Magazine, not long before he died, has been added to the website. News report on the Kochi Iaido Taikai a few weeks ago. A few familiar faces there, including Takizawa Sensei who will be teaching at the AKR National Seminar on the Sunshine Coast in September.

Kyoto Embu Taikai
Spent Saturday hanging out in Kyoto at the annual All Japan Kendo Federation Embu Taikai held at the historic Budo Centre. It kicks off with Kobudo, Naginata and Jodo before moving on to Iaido where I had a turn along with a few hundred others. The day literally ended with a bang with an earthquake, just after the event wrapped up with demonstrations by the 8 Dan Hanshi contingent.

Happy Gravy Day
They came from all directions for Gravy Day and our last training for 2025 at Wynnum on the Twenty First of December. Ringing the last bell, we had Lynford, Tom, Adam and Roy from the north. Gotaro from the south and Sharma in a surprise appearance from the west. We kicked off with iaido and included some Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu after recently focussing on Kendo Renmei Iai. We then did some aikido before heading around the block to the Carport Café for a coffee and chat. All completed in time to watch the Aussies finish off England in the cricket. Thanks everyone for your support and effort this year. Northside Budokai at Nundah starts on 2 January and we will be back in action at Wynnum on Sunday 4 January. Have a safe and happy holiday.
