Footscray Pirates Ice Hockey Club Public Page Summer comp

Alan Adamson, who celebrated his 90th birthday a few years ago, played more than 200 games for the Pirates (and Monarchs) from 1965 to 1980. He was part of the team that won the first club premiership in 1976, spent a decade with the Vic association, managed international teams, and received Life Membership from the national association.

Alan still makes it to the monthly Pirate (parma) meet-up, but he had a fall just before being picked up recently. He struggled to get back up for about 15 minutes, but being as stubborn as he is, he still went to parma night when his ride showed up. The next day, the hospital informed him that he had broken his knee in the fall. He went home, but now he’s back in Footscray Hospital dealing with heart problems. Hey all, up date on Alan Adamson, after last parma night, turns out he broke his knee, just prior being picked up.

He had fallen over at home, on the floor without help, for 15 min.

Went to hospital the next day.

Now he is back in hospital, having heart issues.

The ABC has featured the Australian Ice Hockey League in its latest episode of the Play On series. The episode, S2E3, is now available to stream on ABC iview.

The footage was shot over the course of the 2025 AIHL season and features some of the big import players from last season, Ishida, Wishart, Tallberg and Booth. Kerry Goulet's work with Stopconcussions also features.

Stephen White spoke with presenter and producer Paul Kennedy about the show.

“We were thrilled to go behind with several teams and find out about this boom in ice hockey excitement. It’s one of the most eye-opening sports experiences I’ve had,” Kennedy said.

“Audiences across Asia and the Pacific are going to love finding out about all the unique characters.”

As the preparations for the 2026 season picks up pace, it is great to see the league and the sport featured on the national public broadcaster.
