Another fantastic Fletchlings event at the club! 🎯
A huge congratulations to everyone involved in making it such a success. A big thank you to all the organizers and club members who put in the time and effort behind the scenes, it really shows.
We’d also like to thank all the archers who participated, bringing great energy and some impressive scores throughout the day. And of course, a special thanks to the judges for keeping everything running smoothly.
Perfect weather, great shooting, and an all-around brilliant day at the range. Already looking forward to next year!

INFORMATION FOR BENARA 2026 MATCHPLAY CHALLENGE
There will be two divisions:
1. Compound bow made up of both freestyle and barebow.
2. Conventional bow made up of Recurve (both freestyle and barebow) plus Longbow.
Each archer will shoot at a distance that is determined by their handicap rating (from Archers Diary), with there being no further distinction between Men, Ladies, Freestyle, Barebow or different age groups, (as this is all taken care of by the handicap rating).
The distances to be shot by individual archers are as per the following table.
Note that these handicaps and distances have been selected to ensure that all scores shot will be close, eliminating the vast difference in scores that can result when shooting the traditional matchplay distances.
Handicap rating/distance/group
RECURVE AND LONGBOW (two archers per target face)
40 and below - 20 metres (80cm target face) - R1
41 to 66 - 35 metres (80cm target face) - R2
67 and above - 50 metres (80cm target face) - R3
COMPOUND (one archer per target face)
77 and below - 20 metres (6 zone 80cm target face) - C1
78 and 97 - 35 metres (6 zone 80cm target face) - C2
98 and above - 50 metres (6 zone 80cm target face) - C3
The format for the days shooting is as follows:
1. Ranking Round (30 arrows only)
2. Non elimination Matchplay Round (individual)
3. “Super teams” non elimination matchplay Round (a new addition this year)
General Details
1. The ranking round will consist of 30 arrows (10 ends of 3 arrows each).
Archers will shoot at the distances indicated in the above table and competition will be based on the scores shot on the day.
The minimum effective number of archers in any shooting group for matchplay is considered to be six. In the case where a group has less than six archers entered in it, the organisers reserve the right to allocate those archers to an alternative group.
2. Matchplay Round Details
Archers within each of the six groups (R1, R2, R3, C1, C2, and C3 as per the above table) will be ranked (within their group) based on the scores shot in the ranking round.
The event will continue as a non-elimination matchplay, with archers within a group shooting only against other archers in that group.
All matches (compound as well as recurve) will be conducted using the set point system of scoring.
In the event of a tie at the end of the match, the winner will be decided by a one arrow shoot off.
All matches will be shot concurrently.
Medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each of the six groups.
3. “Super Teams” event Details
Archers will be divided into teams of six, by the organisers.
Each team will consist (wherever possible) of one archer from each of the six shooting groups (R1, R2, R3, C1, C2, C3).
Every effort will be made to ensure that the teams are equal in scoring ability (based on the scores shot by each individual in the ranking round), in order to ensure close competition.
The “ranking” of each team (to determine the matchplay sequence) will be determined by drawing lots.
Two practice ends will be shot (all teams shooting concurrently), so that everyone becomes familiar with the process.
Each archer will shoot at the same distance they used for the individual event (i.e. 20, 35 or 50 metres).
Each end of a match shall require each archer in the team to shoot two arrows (giving twelve arrows for the team).
All teams will shoot concurrently.
In order to reduce the time taken for the shoot, two archers in a team will shoot at the same time.
Timing allowed will be 180 seconds per end (i.e. an average of 30 seconds per arrow).
Once the end is completed, all members of each team shall proceed to scoring and all twelve arrows shot by the team shall be entered.
In a similar manner to that used in the individual elimination event, the two teams contesting each match will enter their scores on a single scoresheet, where they will be compared and set points determined.
The number of ends to be shot during each match will be advised on the day (as it will be dependent upon the number of entries and the time available).
Medals will be awarded for the members of the top three placed teams.
