Three exciting sessions, swimmers of all ages and nine new Aruban Records made our ASU Olimpiada Swimming Weekend one to remember!

Our youngest athletes started the new season with a bang! Vitali Inocencia and Neymar Rasmijn were named 𝐀𝐭𝐡𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭, while five new Aruban Age Group Records were set:

Our 13 & Up swimmers gave it their all during an action-packed sprint session, setting plenty of new times and three new Aruban Age Group Records:

On Sunday, the heat was on during our first Masters-only competition in the short-course pool! The event was topped off with a new Aruban National Record:

🏊‍♀️🏊‍♂️🇦🇼 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗧’𝗦 𝗔 𝗪𝗥𝗔𝗣 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗦𝗪𝗜𝗠𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗔𝗧 𝗦𝗔𝗡𝗧𝗔 𝗙𝗘 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲!

Our swimmers have completed their competition at the South American Games, wrapping up four days of racing against a strong field from across the continent.

On Day 3, 𝗢𝗰𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝘃𝗮𝗻 𝗟𝗼𝗼𝗻 raced the 100m Butterfly, finishing 12th with a time of 59.00. At just 16 years old, Ocean gained valuable experience competing at this level against a senior field. 💪

The final day brought all three Aruba swimmers back into action.

𝗠𝗶𝗸𝗮𝗲𝗹𝗮 𝘃𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝗕𝗲𝗿𝗴 closed her competition with a 27.55 in the 50m Freestyle.

𝗘𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗲𝘁𝗵 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 qualified 7th for the 50m Freestyle final with a 25.77 before stepping it up to 𝟮𝟱.𝟱𝟮 in an incredibly close final. She finished 𝟱𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹, just 0.16 seconds from the bronze medal and only 0.01 from her own Aruba National Record! 🔥🇦🇼

𝗢𝗰𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝘃𝗮𝗻 𝗟𝗼𝗼𝗻 also returned for the 200m Butterfly final, completing his last race of the Games in 2:15.92.

A strong week for Team Aruba, including multiple finals and a 𝗡𝗘𝗪 𝗔𝗥𝗨𝗕𝗔 𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗥𝗘𝗖𝗢𝗥𝗗 of 27.31 by Elisabeth in the 50m Butterfly! 🇦🇼🔥

Another strong day in the pool for Aruba at the 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗚𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮 𝗙𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, highlighted by a fantastic performance from 𝗘𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗲𝘁𝗵 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿.

Elisabeth qualified 𝟳𝘁𝗵 for the 50m Butterfly final after swimming 𝟮𝟳.𝟰𝟲 in the morning. Back in the pool for the final, she stepped it up with a 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗔𝗿𝘂𝗯𝗮 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝟮𝟳.𝟯𝟭, finishing an impressive 𝟲𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹! 👏

Earlier in the day, 𝗢𝗰𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝘃𝗮𝗻 𝗟𝗼𝗼𝗻 raced the 100m Backstroke, finishing 𝟭𝟬𝘁𝗵 in 𝟱𝟵.𝟭𝟭, just outside the final.

𝗠𝗶𝗸𝗮𝗲𝗹𝗮 𝘃𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝗕𝗲𝗿𝗴 competed in the 50m Butterfly, clocking 𝟮𝟵.𝟲𝟭 and finishing 𝟭𝟲𝘁𝗵 overall.

🏊‍♀️🇦🇼 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟭 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗮𝘁 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮 𝗙𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲!

Aruba’s swimmers were in action today for the first day of swimming at the South American Games Santa Fe 2026, with Mikaela van den Berg, Elisabeth Timmer and Ocean van Loon taking on their first events.

In the 50m Backstroke, Mikaela finished in 34.27, while Ocean touched in 27.92. Both delivered solid swims in the preliminaries but did not advance to the final.

Mikaela was also in action in the 100m Freestyle, finishing in 1:05.18.

🔥 Elisabeth Timmer secured Aruba’s first final of the competition! After qualifying from the 100m Freestyle preliminaries with a time of 57.38, she returned to the pool for the final and stepped it up to 56.41, finishing 6th overall against a strong South American field.

A great start to the competition and more racing still to come! 💪🇦🇼

🌟𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗾𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗦𝗨 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 & 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗼!

Yesterday, the Aruba Aquatics Federation participated in the ASU Sport & Health Expo, part of the celebration of Aruba Sport Unie’s 85th anniversary.

Throughout the day, members of Giants Aquatics and Barracudas Aruba joined AAF at the booth to introduce visitors to their clubs and the different aquatics opportunities available in Aruba.

Later in the day, AAF also joined the parade that officially opened the ASU Olimpiada, together with athletes representing our various member clubs.

Initiatives such as the ASU Olimpiada are important because they allow children and their families to discover new sports and find an activity that suits and inspires them.

The aquatics program is also underway! Yesterday, the Artistic Swimming competition took place, followed by the award ceremony, while the swimming competition will be held next weekend.

The XIII South American Games – Santa Fe 2026 are about to begin, bringing together more than 4,000 athletes from 15 countries across South America. The Games officially run from September 12–26, with the swimming competition starting on Sunday, September 13 in Rosario.

🇦🇼 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱𝘀 – 𝗔𝗻 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿! 🌊

What an experience for Ethan Cunha and Chloë-Nicole Dirksz at the World Aquatics Junior Open Water Swimming Championships 2026 in Santa Fe, Argentina!

Two competition days gave our young Aruban athletes the opportunity to race among some of the best junior open water swimmers in the world, at an impressive venue and in conditions very different from those they are used to back home.

On Day 1, Chloë-Nicole took on the 5 km Girls 14–15 Years. Despite not feeling well and battling the challenging cold conditions, she showed great determination and kept fighting until the final turn, where the Over Time Limit (OTL) was applied.

Ethan competed in the 7.5 km Boys 16–17 Years and completed the full distance within the time limit — something he can be proud of at this level of international competition. 💪

Day 2 brought the 3 km Knockout Sprint. Unfortunately, Chloë-Nicole was not feeling well enough to compete. Ethan was back on the start line and gave it his all in the first round, but did not advance to the next stage.

But Junior Worlds is about so much more than results. 🌍🌊 It is about gaining international experience, learning to adapt, discovering what it takes to compete at the highest junior level and taking those lessons home to become stronger athletes.

There will always be highs and lows in sport. Both are part of the journey, both help you grow, and both challenge you to come back better. 💪🏊

We are proud of Ethan and Chloë-Nicole for representing Aruba on the world stage and embracing this incredible opportunity. 🇦🇼💙
