Windies top order batsman Shai Hope says that even though the team will be missing two key batsmen in Shimron Hetmyer and Darren Bravo, the other batsmen should use the opportunity to buckle down even more.

Hope is much more prolific in one day internationals, averaging over fifty against a test average in the low thirties.

While he's not too sure why that is, he says that this tour is a good time to improve his red ball game.

Organisers of the 2020 Hero Caribbean Premier League and the Government of Trinidad and Tobago are very close to signing off on a deal.

Reports are that most of the boxes have been ticked, and it seems as if the T20 competition expected to start on August 19 entirely in Trinidad, is a go.

The CPL is proposing double-headers for one week at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, then the next week the same number of matches will be played at the Queen's Park Oval, and then back to Brian Lara Academy until the 33 matches are completed.

The organisers are proposing to create a bio-secure environment at the Hilton Trinidad for players and officials and all protocols concerning the COVID-19 regulations are expected to be met.

With the Caribbean not badly affected by the coronavirus pandemic, the tournament may well contain only regional players and no internationals.
Also, no spectators will be allowed in the stands as the matches will be played behind closed doors.

Reports also suggest that only some minor details are to be worked out, and an announcement is expected by this Friday.

It is understood that the government has welcomed the proposal and a lot of hard work has been going on behind the scenes to get the tournament on.

CPL is expected to announce the date for the draft once they get the go-ahead that the tournament is taking place.

So far, all six franchise teams have announced their Caribbean retentions.

The idea is to be pitched to representatives of local clubs at a meeting scheduled for today at Kensington Oval.

The T20 competition will be an attempt to get the BCA season started, after Government eased restrictions on all sports on the island.

BCA President Conde Riley told CBC Sports that an audit of all the clubs has also been undertaken to assess their needs at this time.

Riley also revealed that there will be no promotion or demotion of teams this year, as clubs try to get back up and running.

Select venues will also be utilised for the competition.

There were areas of concern coming out of the 2020 Regional Four-day Championship.

That assessment from Jimmy Adams, Director of Cricket at Cricket West Indies, in an exclusive interview with CBC Sports.

As he seeks to chart a path forward for the development of the sport in the Caribbean, Adams says the bowlers definitely dominated the tournament, which was cut short by COVID-19.

He's calling for more consistency from the batsmen.
