The Hikers Hockey Club had a hardworking and fun filled weekend participating in the Guyana Diamond Jubilee Hockey tournament, where the men’s team won gold and the ladies team won silver.
Individual winners in the men’s category included Jamarj Assanah winning MVP & Christian Sumeer winning best goalkeeper.
It was truly an amazing feeling to have both teams reach the finals together and shows the hard work we have been putting into our junior players whilst still having the strong support of our senior athletes.
Thank you to the athletes that came out everyday and gave your all, our coaches, & our supporters!!
Every tournament showcases the club’s special brand of sportsmanship and family spirit. We celebrate our continued commitment to having fun and playing our best hockey every time! Keep shining, Hikers family!

Hikers Ladies and Men Hockey Teams are in the Finals of the Diamond Jubilee Cup
The Women’s Final starts at 18:30 hrs, followed by the Men’s Final at 20:00 hrs.
This tournament is in celebration of Guyana’s 60th Independence Anniversary and is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport. All local hockey clubs across Guyana entered an 11-a-side competition being played under floodlights at the Guyana National Stadium.
After four days of exciting competition, both the Hikers men’s and ladies’ teams have proudly earned their place in the finals.
This achievement is especially special for the Ladies, given that they fielded a team made up mainly of junior players who are less experienced. But despite being the underdogs, they defeated both the Saints and the Old Fort ladies’ teams.
The women will be playing the undefeated GCC Elite, made up mainly of national players who are in great form, given their preparation for the upcoming tour in Trinidad next month.
The Hikers ladies remain ambitious to put up a good fight in the finals.
The Hikers Men continue to show their competitive strength and with Captain Jamarj Assanah at the helm, they take on OldFort, a young, energetic, speedy team.
Wear Yellow or Green and come out and support your favourite club, Hikers Hockey Team 💚💛
Good Luck, Team Hikers

Here’s to the players, supporters, leaders, and friends who continue to inspire us. We are proud to have you as part of our team. 💙🏑

What does it mean to be Hikers? It means grit, hustle, & family. We train hard, play harder, and stand together. It means we don’t back down and we don’t crack under pressure. We set the pace, the standard, and play with a purpose. It’s knowing your team has your back no matter the score. It means a whole lot of heart. Hikers don’t just play hockey. We lift, we lead, and we leave everything on the field!
BIG congratulations to Hikers at a successful Diamond Mineral water tournament! 10x open men champions & x7 vets champions! Keep playing with pride!! 💚💛💚💛
