What are Beach Sprints in Rowing?

Beach Sprints are head to head races in which rowers compete in solos, mixed doubles and mixed coxed quads.

Races are in coastal boats and begin with a beach start/ a 10 to 50m sprint to the boat. One rower then hops into the boat, the team then rows quickly out 250m, around a bouy and back. The race ends with one rower from the team sprinting to a finish line and tapping a buzzer to stop the clock.

PS. Barbados will be competing in the 2022 World Rowing Beach Sprints over the coming weekend (October 14 - 16) in Saundersfoot, Wales.

The 2022 World Rowing Congress was held on Monday, September 26 in Prague Czech Republic.

Delegates got the chance to meet in person for the first time in two years. Present in-person were thirty-nine member federations and thirty-one virtually. Together we discussed and voted on matters pertaining to the future of our sport.

The session was productive and notably the World Rowing Championships were attributed to Shanghai, China and Amsterdam, Netherlands for the years 2025 and 2026 respectively.

The Rowing Association of Barbados sends congratulations to all nominees, and a warm welcome to new member federations. We also wish the entire rowing community success in the upcoming year.
