It’s been a while since I posted, and it’s because 2021 has been a trip and a half, as it has been for everyone. Give thanks that we can still get out and exercise.
2021 has been like Stephen King freestyling a disaster book with everything that’s happened here, and I couldn’t have made it up if. I tried.
After going through another lockdown in February, we then experienced ashfall from a volcano eruptinginst Vincent, that kept us in our house for more than a week due to how heavy it was.
Less than a couple months after that, we were hit with a Category 1 hurricane. The damage was not as bad as expected, but still a lot of the island was disrupted for weeks after. We kinda got lucky, but also didn’t .
These things happening, it’s been difficult to get into a headspace to post anything, so here’s a bit of a catch up.
I still love to paddle, but with no race planned for the near future, I’ve been trying some new sports, and have quite taken to trail running. The cardio increase has been insane, and I’ve even sped up a little bit as a runner. I worked really hard to be this slow. 🙌🏼. Tried a half marathon distance trail run , sorta by accident. Was hoping to get I some more miles before doing it, but the timing was right to go with a great group of friends. Glad for that. What an experience.
Here I’ve also included a few other trail runs that showcase how beautiful Barbados is. I wouldn’t have been as appreciative as I am now if I wasn’t running all over the place.
Also, lastly, if you check out Outer Banks on Netflix , the second season was shot here. So cool to see our little island.
Will try to keep up some posting once in the mood.
Thanks for following.
Surfski Barbados
Presently, this page will help to build interest in surfski in Barbados. If you are competent in a surfski and on your way to Barbados, please contact us.
For the moment, this page will help to build interest of surfski in Barbados. Barbados is a beatiful island that is the easternmost in the chain of Caribbean islands. We have wind conditions that are favourable for downwinds most of the year, and sea conditions to cater to any skill level. Best of all, the accessibility in Barbados is unquestionably amazing. Most drives to beaches are 45minutes or less.

Starting 2021 with a sidewind downwind, with our padding clan.
Washing away what was 2020.
All the best to Everyone. May the winds be at your back, and 25kts plus. Short period swell. 🙌🏼
Happy New Year. 2021, please be gentle.

How to make a surfski paddler cry at work. When friends send their split times for the return of an out and back.
It looked like fun, but this confirms it. 😭.
Happy for them.

No filter views of today’s after work paddle. Well, the waterproof case did something, but technically not a filter.
We’re in between some weather that is causing the lulls.
Feels like slicing through glass.

When the wind doesn’t blow, this is what you’re left with.

The importance of finding a flow in surfski cannot be understated. It’s what can make an average paddler jump in average speed (did not mean to use that so often, but anyhow. 🤷🏻♂️).
I’ve used the two videos to show how, on pretty much the same strectsh of coast, you can have different types of days, like anything else.
The top video is from Sunday. By all accounts Sunday should have been a very fast day, but the average speed was only 12.6kmh. The surfski was a carbon/Kevlar Think, which is, from my first paddle in it, a stable and very fast ski. Sadly, with the howling wind and big seas, 2m swells, still could not find a flow.
Now to the video below.
The Birthday Pain Lap from 2019, was by all acocounts a small day, with not much wind, as you can see from the water, but, there was a flow that made the high speeds effortless, as you can see from the paddles down.
In the surfski, as well as life, all I’m looking for is a flow to it, like anyone else, I’d imagine.
Hoping everyone retrieves their flow for this year, and plenty paddles down on your downinds.
In any case, give thanks for still being here to appreciate this escape to the ocean.
🙌🏼

Thank you for the snap of our group on a “Pain Lap”.
Always nice to have photos taken of your paddling, but this takes the cake for picking up the sync. 😬

Took some stills from drone footage I had, to make a background for iPad. Settled on the first one so it can rotate and not cut off the logo. 🙌🏼
Barbados water is beautiful, and there’s more where this came from.

Desperate. There’s a new swell and wind, here. On it already. In my mind at least.
To say “missing the water” is an understatement. 😭
