A Finnish museum is launching an ambitious new model of artist support that goes far beyond the standard exhibition schedule to encompass financial, practical and institutional backing. “I want to break with the cycles of announcing a year’s programme, working with three-month shows and giving artists a symbolic fee of €10,000 when you know they’re working their asses off practically full-time,” says Krist Gruijthuijsen, the new director of Finland’s largest art museum, Espoo Museum of Modern Art (Emma).

বিশিষ্ট শিল্পী, শিল্প-নির্দেশক ও পরিচালক তরুণ ঘোষ আর আমাদের মাঝে নেই।

১৯৫৩ সালের নভেম্বরে রাজবাড়ীতে জন্মগ্রহণ করেন তিনি। বহুমাত্রিক প্রতিভার অধিকারী এই শিল্পী ১৯৭৯ সালে রাজশাহী আর্ট কলেজের প্রতিষ্ঠাতা শিক্ষক হিসেবে যোগ দেন, যা পরবর্তীতে রাজশাহী বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের চারুকলা বিভাগ হয়ে ওঠে।

১৯৮৫ থেকে ১৯৮৭ সাল পর্যন্ত তিনি ভারতের বরোদায় এম.এস. বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের অধীনে ‘ফোক পেইন্টিং রিসার্চ অ্যান্ড ডকুমেন্টেশন প্রোগ্রাম’-এ কাজ করেন।

চিত্রকলার পাশাপাশি চলচ্চিত্রেও তরুণ ঘোষ অবদান রাখেন। ‘কিত্তনখোলা’ চলচ্চিত্রে শিল্প নির্দেশনার জন্য তিনি জাতীয় চলচ্চিত্র পুরস্কার অর্জন করেন। এছাড়াও ‘মাটির ময়না’, ‘নরসুন্দর’ এবং ‘চন্দ্রাবতী কথা’-সহ সর্বশেষ ‘সখী রঙ্গমালা’ চলচ্চিত্রে তিনি শিল্প-নির্দেশকের দায়িত্ব পালন করেন।

তাঁর চিত্রকর্মে বাংলার লোকঐতিহ্য, মিথ ও ইতিহাস আধুনিক ব্যাখ্যায় জীবন্ত হয়ে উঠেছে। তাঁর বিখ্যাত ‘বেহুলা’ সিরিজ বিশেষভাবে প্রশংসিত। মুক্তিযুদ্ধভিত্তিক বৃহৎ ক্যানভাস সিরিজসহ পাখি, প্রকৃতি, প্রতিকৃতি ও ব্যক্তিগত অনুভূতির নানা দিক তাঁর শিল্পকর্মে প্রতিফলিত হয়েছে।

শিল্পী তরুণ ঘোষের প্রয়াণে দেশের শিল্পাঙ্গনে এক অপূরণীয় শূন্যতা তৈরি হলো। শিল্পীর প্রয়াণে 'পেইন্টিংস অব বাংলাদেশি আর্টিস্ট' পেইজ গভীর শোক প্রকাশ করছে।
