🇲🇾 Operation Kutip: Malaysian Immigration Detains 200 Undocumented Migrants in Cheras

KUALA LUMPUR, 6 July 2026 – The Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) detained 200 undocumented migrants during Operation Kutip at the Taman Maluri Night Market, Cheras, following two weeks of intelligence gathering and public complaints.

A total of 500 individuals were inspected, including 407 foreign nationals and 93 Malaysians. The 200 detainees comprised 125 men and 75 women. They are suspected of offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63, including not possessing valid travel documents, overstaying, misusing visit or work passes, and violating pass conditions.

According to JIM, among the foreign nationals inspected, the largest groups were Bangladesh (168), Myanmar (99), Indonesia (48), and Nepal (27). These figures refer to those inspected by nationality and do not necessarily represent the number detained.

JIM said enforcement operations will continue across Kuala Lumpur to address immigration law violations.
