Automobile Association of Bangladesh (AAB):
The Automobile Association of Bangladesh (AAB), established in 1953 and headquartered in Dhaka, is the sole national organisation representing car owners in Bangladesh. AAB is dedicated to safeguarding the interests of motorists through advocacy for road safety, sustainable mobility, and improved traffic management. As the exclusive Bangladeshi member o
f the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and the Alliance Internationale de Tourisme (AIT), AAB holds a prominent position in promoting mobility, motorsport, and international motoring standards. Historical Foundations and Early Mission:
Founded during a period when automotive transport was emerging as a vital component of modern mobility in the region, AAB was created to address the evolving needs of motorists in Bangladesh. In its early years, the association focused on fostering road safety awareness, improving traffic conditions, and promoting the proper use of motor vehicles. At a time when motoring regulations and infrastructure were in their infancy, AAB provided a platform for advocacy and collaboration between motorists, policymakers, and urban planners. Development and Global Integration:
As motoring in Bangladesh grew, AAB expanded its scope of activities to meet the changing needs of motorists. Its affiliation with the FIA marked a significant milestone, elevating its global stature and establishing AAB as the official authority for motorsport development and mobility services in Bangladesh. This partnership allows AAB to issue competition driving licences, enabling Bangladeshi participants to compete in local, national, and international motorsport events, including emerging sectors like esports. Additionally, AAB’s membership in the AIT authorised it to issue International Driving Permits (IDPs) under the 1949 Geneva Convention on Road Traffic. Motorsport Development and Advocacy:
AAB has been a driving force behind the growth of motorsport in Bangladesh. The association oversees motorsport activities in compliance with FIA’s international standards and has organised numerous training programmes, karting slaloms, and contests aimed at inspiring the next generation of racers in the country. Beyond motorsport, AAB remains a leading advocate for road safety and sustainable mobility. Through various awareness campaigns and partnerships, the association addresses critical issues such as traffic congestion, road safety education, and the promotion of environmentally friendly transportation options. By working closely with government agencies and private stakeholders, AAB has been instrumental in influencing policy and public opinion towards safer and more efficient transport systems. Services and Member Benefits:
AAB continues to provide exclusive benefits to its members, including roadside assistance, travel-related services, and discounts on motoring-related products. These offerings aim to enhance the overall motoring experience for Bangladeshi car owners and promote a culture of responsible and safe driving. A Legacy of Excellence and Future Vision:
Over the decades, AAB has evolved into a symbol of innovation, leadership, and commitment within Bangladesh’s automotive community. Its efforts have not only improved the lives of motorists but have also positioned Bangladesh as an emerging player in the global motorsport arena. With a strong foundation and a forward-looking vision, AAB continues to drive progress in road safety, sustainable mobility, and motorsport development, making it an integral part of the country’s automotive ecosystem. This is a personal message to everyone after the end of the blessed month of Ramadan and the Eid celebrations. I hope you all had good experiences during the holy month and a wonderful Eid with family and friends.
My main learning from the experiences of Ramadan is that:
*I don’t know what Allah knows! *
You may well ask: how did I learn this? I will answer for you.
Many of you may know I have been busy since early last year trying to build my brand of cross car for motorsports.
After setting up my factory and getting all parts together to build two prototypes and employing three technicians to learn the process, I had a team of three engineers from one European manufacturer come to my factory to build these for me and to train my team.
They came on the 23rd Feb and would return on the 28th. All flights booked.
By the morning of the 28th, we had 90% of one car built and 0% of the second except for the chassis.
My thoughts were and this is the relevant bit: maybe we can build the first one today and then the team will leave. We will have to build the second one ourselves.
But, Allah knew better: the war started on the 28th Feb and all flights were cancelled by all airlines. My EU team could not leave and had to stay back. They completed the second unit in the next few days.
Allah knew that my dream of two cars would happen whereas I was worried and was disheartened I would not able to achieve my dream and objective of building 2 cars with the EU team.
Alhamdulillah, I am now able to share the first photos of our products.
Since the war started, the dynamics of the world has changed and we are all affected by it in one way or another. We are all worried and concerned about our future.
I urge you to remember the lesson I learnt during the Month of Ramadan and the blessings we all received and to rely upon my 3P principle to get over the present hard times and expect a better world to live in the future. The 3Ps are: Patience Prayer Perseverance.
Allah knows what we don’t know! Expect the best and have faith in Allah.
Honorable President
