UENR WOMEN PLACED THIRD IN THE 2023 INTER UNIVERSITY GUSA CROSS-COUNTRY COMPETITION HELD AT UG
For the first appearance, the women team of UENR cross-country managed to place third ahead of UG and KNUST. This 3rd position is a big milestone for the university community.

In addition, the men cross country team also placed 5th ahead of KNUST and UDS to indicate that all is not lost. This is a clear indication that the project which has started has a promising end if given some time to mature.

The registrar Mr. Panford Solomon Esq. and the chairman of UENR sports and recreation, Prof Simon Abugre took turn to encourage the athletes to persevere in all their endeavour and also advised them to challenge themselves for excellence. They were cocksure, UENR will one day become a force to reckon with. The contingent for the 26th edition of the GUSA games at UG were: Nina Abotenkemah, Helena Carbo, Adusei Racheal, Portia Aboagye, Selina Soapa, Kyei Nyarko Daniella, Frimpong Deborah Opoku, Dramani Rahinatu, Ruth Oppong

The men’s team were: Abel Aselise, Ali Abbas Shaban Mohammed, Oduro Samuel, Amankwatia Michael, Abraham Accam Nungmete, Emmanuel Nkrumah Arthur, Bashiru Mohammed, Laboni Samuel, Martin Atta Awuni, Joseph Boateng, and Manu Anthony Jnr

GHANA PICKLEBALL ASSOCIATION VISITS MANAGEMENT OF UENR

I gladly received a team from the Ghana Pickleball Association on Friday 11th August, 2023. We thanked Apostle Dr. Akufo, President of the Ghana Pickleball Association and his team for settling on our University as the preferred destination for the introduction of the sports to the good people of the Bono, Bono East and the Ahafo regions of Ghana.

Pickleball is a fast growing Sport which was introduced in the United States of America in Washington State by Joel Pritchard & co. The Sport surfaced at University of Ghana, Legon in 2022 but was officially introduced by Apostle Dr. Kwabena Akufo a retired superintendent of the Apostolic Church based in the United States of America and partly Ghana in 2022.

The Sport was officially introduced at University of Ghana, Legon in 2023 during the launch of the University of Ghana @75 Anniversary Inter Hall Games by Apostle Dr. Akufo, President of the Ghana Pickleball Association.

The sport has been introduced to six public universities namely University of Ghana (UG), University of Cape Coast (UCC), University of Education Winneba (UEW), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED), University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) with University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) as the seventh University. The reason for the introduction of the sport at UENR is unique and strategic because UENR will serve as the focal point for all the institutions in the Bono, Bono East and the Ahafo Regions of Ghana to learn the sport and also as the first institution in then Brong Ahafo region to play the sport and also participate in the Pickleball exhibition at the next Ghana Universities Sports Association(GUSA) games.

Mr. Michael Justice Apea, Technical Director of Ghana Pickleball Association donated a set of equipment, 4 paddles, one box of balls and a Net on behalf of the Association.

Prof. John Kofi Mensah Kuwornu, Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dominic Otoo, Dean of the School of Graduate Studies,Solomon Panford Esq., APR., Registrar and Mr. Ebenezer Kingsley Amoah, University’s Director of Sports and Recreation were present at the meeting.
