XCC, explained.
XCC is cross-country short track: a fast, short-form mountain bike race. Multiple laps of a compact course, typically around 20–25 minutes, everyone starting together — the sprint version of cross-country.
And it’s built for watching. Short laps bring the riders past you again and again, passing and lead changes can happen every lap, and small mistakes can change the whole race. First across the finish line wins.
XCC opens championship weekend Friday evening at Woodnewton.
Racing it? Registration is open — link in bio.
Sept 11–13. Woodnewton, Uxbridge.

Registration is open for ShredHERS Fest.
Saturday, September 12, 2-6pm at Woodnewton. An afternoon built for girls and women who ride - riding, skills, and a field full of people who want you there.
It runs on the same weekend as the Ontario MTB Provincial Championships
You do not need to be fast, and you do not need to have done this before. That is genuinely the point.

The smallest start line of the weekend might be the loudest.
Saturday, September 12, 1:00–1:30pm: the Kids Fun Race takes over Woodnewton between the Team Relay podiums and ShredHERS Fest. Same venue as the provincial champions, scaled to little legs. And it’s FREE to try — no racing experience needed.
Hosted by a club built for young riders — the Durham Shredders have been getting kids aged 7–18 on trails since 2017.
Just bring a bike, a helmet and a cheering section. *Must be ages 7-12 to participate. Times subject to the official technical guide.*

While some of our athletes were racing at the Ontario Summer Games last weekend, two young Shredders took on the Cannondale Grand River Gravel ON Series, put on by Substance Projects.
Callum Jenkins put together a fantastic ride to finish 3rd in the 50km Male Under 20 Open category, while Julian Porter tackled an impressive challenge - lining up in the 110km Male 20-34 Open race.
We’re incredibly proud to see our young athletes embracing new disciplines, stepping outside their comfort zones racing against much older and more experience competitors, and discovering just how much they’re capable of. Whether it’s mountain biking, gravel, road, or cyclocross, every experience helps shape them into stronger, more well-rounded cyclists.
Congratulations, Callum and Julian! 👏💙

Every great rider starts with the fundamentals.
Week 1 of Session 3 is in the books, and Week 2 is underway! Our Learn to Ride riders kicked things off with bike checks, rider assessments, and straight-line skills, while our Learn to Race athletes focused on one of the most important parts of any race- the start.
Every week builds on the last, helping riders gain confidence, develop new skills, and have fun along the way. We can’t wait to see what this week’s session brings! 👏

A huge congratulations to Anna Christensen on her perfectly executed XCC, taking home the 🍁 jersey! Big shoutout to our incredible coaching staff and parents who supported all of our athletes throughout the weekend (and to Coach Sue for snagging 🍁 jersey on top of it all). Massive thank you to Havy for keeping bikes rolling all weekend. Last but not least, thank you to Norco Bicycles for their infrastructure support and Ontario Cycling for supporting many of our athletes.
Championships like these are about so much more than the results - they’re about years of preparation, learning from every opportunity, and representing Durham Shredders with pride. We couldn’t be prouder of this group and everything they accomplished. 🇨🇦 🚵♀️
