Last month the Chairholder of the Energy Chair, Prof. Dr. Dirk Buschle, provided a training on the topic of ‘A single Energy Market for the EU and its neighbours’ to professionals seeking to learn more about the Energy Union.

On 19 June, the students of the Energy Group visited the offshore windmill park off the coast of Oostende, which is being extended at an impressive rate, reflecting the importance of the decarbonisation of our electricity supply. Last Friday 23 March, the students of the Energy Group of the Keynes promotion presented the outcome of their year-long project, the White Paper on Good Practices in the Fields of Environment and Energy in the EU Member States, at the European Parliament. Culminating one year of work and having been awarded the European Charlemagne Youth Prize for Belgium in 2017, the White Paper reviews the best practices in environmental and energy regulation across the EU, in an aim of identifying best practices that could and would deserve to be replicated across the Union.
The event was opened by the European Energy Policy Chair of the College of Europe, Professor Dirk BUSCHLE, as well as by the Head of the European Parliament Information Office in Belgium, Mr Rolf FALTER, and was attended by alumni and current students of the College, MEP assistants, practitioners in the fields of environment and energy, as well as by the general public.

On Thursday 22 March, a group of students of the Energy Group attended an all-day workshop in Brussels entitled “Practicing the Future EU Electricity System” organised by EIT InnoEnergy. The workshop was composed of an exchange with practitioners as well as a simulation activity on the subject of European Electricity Market Design.

Fait divers: The terminal has a yearly transshipment capacity of over 9 billion cubic metres of LNG, making it one of the largest LNG terminals in Europe.

On the 15th of December, the Energy Policy Chair launched its new After-Dinner Talks series with Mr Bernd BIERVERT, Deputy Head of the Cabinet of Vice-President ŠEFČOVIČ.
