Morning run in Bruges.
No crowds. Just cobblestones, daffodils and a few curious swans watching you pass.
This is the quiet side of the city — and you get it almost to yourself. 🏃♂️🌼

Bruges. No crowds. Just us and the canals.
We run through the quiet streets while the city is still half asleep.
Best way to meet Bruges? On your feet. 🏃♀️

The Bruges Royal City Theatre (1869) is one of the best-preserved city theatres in Europe. To make room for this regal lady, 46 medieval buildings were razed to the ground, streets were straightened and a new theatre square created. 150 residents lost their homes to the cherished dream of the then bourgeoisie: to have a temple of culture that could stand on equal footing with the large theatre houses of Ghent, Antwerp and Brussels.
The Manhattan of Burgundian Bruges in the Middle Ages. A lively port where busy traders assembled from all over Europe, and you could hear every imaginable language. A tangle of people loading and unloading pressed around the Toll House and the Rijkepijndershuis while citizens and merchants watched approvingly from the Burghers’ Lodge.

You might recognise “The old water house” from the The White Queen, a historical BBC TV series which used this location as a secluded hunting lodge. It guaranteed water supplies to the medieval city and even then was regarded as one of the wonders of Bruges. An extensive underground network of lead pipes carried the water to public wells throughout the city.
