Do you feel like some intangible force is holding you back in life?

You might notice that as you take steps towards your career/ realtionship/ health goal you find yourself sabotaging your success, procrastinating, feeling anxious and avoiding what you need to do. You might wonder “what’s wrong with me! Why do I keep stalling? I want this!!!”

What you might not realize however, is that you are carrying a deep belief that;
👉 you don’t deserve success
👉others will find out that you’re a fraud,
👉 achieving success will involve having to maintain more than you can handle.

These aren’t thoughts we are aware of on a daily basis but if you start listening to your inner dialog and the emotions that accompany it you will notice unhelpful assumptions you are making about yourself;
"They are so much better/ smarter/ more talented than me."
“It’s all my fault.”
“I’ll be alone forever.”
“I’m stupid.”

You will also notice other symptoms:
👉behavioral: social withdrawal
👉motivational: loss of interest, procrastination
👉feelings: sadness, anxiety, guilt
👉cognitive: poor concentration, indecisiveness, self-criticism
👉physical: low energy, loss of sleep, loss of appetite.

Uncovering your core beliefs, the unconscious forces that drive your thoughts and behaviour, empowers you to do something different, to change your beliefs, and ultimately change your life.

Good place to start is (as always 😁)with self- awareness. Notice what you are saying to yourself when you are procrastinating. Then with compassion, question those statements and start replacing them with believable but more helpful ones. Start practicing positive self-talk:
👉 I am good/ capable/ talented/ lovable enough.
👉 I don't have to be perfect to be accepted.
👉Just like everyone elese, I deserve success/ love/ happiness
👉 If I take small action steps and work on my goals I can have what I want etc.

Why do we resist change (stepping out of our comfort zone)?👇

Humans are hardwired to resist change.
Change represents unknown and unknown means anything can happen.

The logic of our limbic brain is: if anything can happen, I don’t want to risk you getting in danger.

Part of the limbic brain—the amygdala—interprets change as a threat and releases the fear hormones creating fight/flight/freeze response in the body.

That’s why people either let anxiety stop them, procrastinate and/or get distracted when they want to start creating some type of change in life.

What is crucial to understand in order to prevent the fear from keeping us stuck in life?

Fear that we feel in our body is real but the threat is not necessarily there.

Anything can happen means - great things might happen as well.

Shaming ourselves for feeling the fear that is outside of our control is not helpful. Instead, acknowledge it, breathe into it and bring self regulation techniques on board.

We can calm the fear response in our body by intentionally moving our focus to the present moment in which we are safe to take action (instead of projecting future outcomes).

Instead of overthinking the outcome, create a strategy and start taking tiny, baby steps towards your goals. 👣

Small, consistent steps out of our comfort zone build our tolerance to discomfort that the fear creates and reinforce our sense of agency.

Don’t let fear prevent you from your goals and dreams. Growth might be uncomfortable at first but it is necessary for a meaningful and fulfilling life.

Isn’t this true? ⁣
⁣And still, we do stay stuck where we don’t belong for months and years. Why is that?⁣👇

Well, this is more complex than just making a cognitive decision.⁣
Just a little reminder that there are layers of stuck-ness. Even though they are all parts of one mind-body system, it is helpful to acknowledge how each one manifests.⁣

• Surface level: we can be stuck in a dissatisfying relationship, place, job, friendship, community etc.⁣

• Mind level: stuck in self sabotaging beliefs, rigid (black & white) thinking, overthinking, perfectionism, negativity. ⁣

• Body level: nervous system level: stuck in a survival (flight/fight/shut down/freeze) mode.⁣

• Emotional level: stuck in fear, sadness, grief, depression, anxiety, feeling unworthy, unlovable, incapable. ⁣

Sometimes, we don’t have enough inner resources to move from unhealthy to healthy physical/emotional/ mental state. Therefore, we keep repeating same behavioural patterns and remain in the same life circumstances. ⁣

It is more painful staying where we don’t belong but more often than not, we need a bit of help and support to increase our inner resources and to get empowered to create change.⁣
Do not stay where you don’t belong. ⁣

Oh, it is not just ok, it is necessary for our wellbeing to regularly take the time to check in with our body, our mind, our physical + intellectual + emotional needs & ‘fill our own cup’ before we can give anything to others.

I beg you not to listen to commercials and loud external noise to tell you how to love yourself. Instead stop and really listen to that quite voice inside.

It’s very likely that you don’t need another pair of shoes. Maybe you just need to take a walk and clear your head. Or read a book you always wanted to. Or talk to someone who validates you. Or …
