Yesterday Rutte lies repeatedly and grossly. He said that Russia is planning on fighting NATO in five years.
He said that China is a threat that we must build up to confront.
He invoked Churchill during his efforts to mobilize Britain before the second world war.
Even after the Ukraine War we must prepare and build up NATO forces. NATO battle plans are classified but 400% increase in air defense, thousands of armored vehicles and tanks and millions of artillary shells, double logisitical supply, transport, medical resources. Allies will invest in ships, airplanes and just one example at least 700 F35 fighter jets. Drones and long range missile systems and cyber war assets will be built.
If more is not spent it is not credible.
Defense is about protecting 1 billion people.
Allies will make investments in infrastructue, ports, roads,civilian networks that support military mobility.
The home front and the front line are now one and the same.
War is no longer fought at a distance. Our societies and miltairies are in this together.
We will invest in civil preparedness so societies are ready for the day we pray will never come.
NATO works 24/7 to insure that day never arrives.
We will invest in cyber defense.
Accross the alliance it is clear that we are not investing enough.
Investments should include financing and capital improvments to our defense industrial base.
We need raw industrial capacity, cheap electricity, access to raw materials.

We must développe new technologies.
More defense spending and production provides effective deterrence, promotes economic growth and creates jobs.
The summit in the Hague will send a clear demand signal to industry.
We all benefit from the protection our transatlantic alliance provides.
As well as becoming stronger and fairer NATO will become more lethal. Rest assured we will always be a defensive alliance. Becoming more lethal means strenghtening our deterrence and defense posture, providing our militaries with what they need to keep us safe.
President Putin does not act like someone who is interested in peace. Russia continues to strike civilian targets day after day, night after night.
This is violence for the sake of violence.
The people of Ukraine deserves a just and lasting peace.
NATO’s practical and political support continues. Our longer term support is not to prolong the war and political support for Ukraine continues.
NATO stands with Ukraine now and through the challenges ahead.
North America and Europe working together is a winning combination.
We will do whatever it takes to protect our way of life.

We can’t think there is one theatre which is the Euro-Atlantic theatre. All is interconnected with what is happening in the Pacific.

I’m not kept up at night at our spending, we will get there but it is our production that worries me.
3.5% core spending and 1.5% defense-related spending which is infrastructure, factory building, societal preparedness, getting the whole society to understand what their role will be, be it active or not getting in the way if war breaks out.

Nous ne pouvons pas penser qu'il existe un seul théâtre, celui de l'Europe et de l'Atlantique. Tout est lié à ce qui se passe dans le Pacifique.
La guerre non provoquée de la Russie contre l'Ukraine en est la preuve.
Étant donné que quatre pays travaillent ensemble : la Russie, la Chine, la Corée du Nord et l'Iran, nous devons nous concentrer sur ces quatre pays.

Notre plus grande inquiétude en Asie de l'Est concerne l'Iran.
En ce qui concerne les éventuelles hausses d'impôts en Allemagne, si vous n'atteignez pas le niveau de 5 %, vous pourrez toujours bénéficier de votre pension et de votre couverture santé, mais vous feriez mieux d'apprendre le russe.
L'OTAN coordonnera et fournira une plateforme de discussion sur les minéraux stratégiques.
L'OTAN n'a pas d'avis sur le changement climatique, mais doit se préparer à l'ouverture de l'Arctique qui en résultera et contrer les initiatives russes et chinoises.

South Africa requests ICJ emergency orders to halt “unspeakable” Gazan genocide

“Israel is now massacring desperate, starving Palestinians seeking to obtain food for their slowly-dying children.” The situation in Gaza is now so terrifying as to be unspeakable, writes South Africa in an urgent request for the International Court of Justice to issue additional provisional measures to stop Israel’s genocide.

South Africa today filed an urgent request with the International Court of Justice for the indication of additional provisional measures and the modification of the Court’s Order of 26 January 2024 and decision of 16 February 2024 in the case concerning Application of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide in the Gaza Strip (South Africa v. Israel), according to the ICJ in a press release dated 6 March.

In its request, South Africa states that it is “compelled to return to the Court in light of the new facts and changes in the situation in Gaza — particularly the situation of widespread starvation — brought about by the continuing egregious breaches of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide . . . by the State of Israel . . . and its ongoing manifest violations of the provisional measures indicated by this Court on 26 January 2024”.

It requests the Court to indicate further provisional measures and/or to modify the provisional measures indicated it its Order of 26 January 2024, pursuant to Article 41 of the Statute of the Court and Article 75, paragraphs 1 and 3, and Article 76, paragraph 1, of the Rules of Court, respectively, “in order urgently to ensure the safety and security of 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza, including over a million children”. It urges the Court to do so without holding a hearing, in light of the “extreme urgency of the situation”.

The situation in Gaza described by the ICJ as “perilous” on 16 February, “is now so terrifying as to be unspeakable… justifying — and indeed demanding — the indication of further provisional measures of protection,” argued South Africa.

South Africa’s has requested that the ICJ make the following additional provisional measures and modification to existing measures:

“All participants in the conflict must ensure that all fighting and hostilities come to an immediate halt, and that all hostages and detainees are released immediately.
“All Parties to the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide must, forthwith, take all measures necessary to comply with all of their obligations under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.
“All Parties to the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide must, forthwith, refrain from any action, and in particular any armed action or support thereof, which might prejudice the right of the Palestinians in Gaza to be protected from acts of genocide and related prohibited acts, or any other rights in respect of whatever judgment the Court may render in the case, or which might aggravate or extend the dispute before the Court or make it more difficult to resolve.
“The State of Israel shall take immediate and effective measures to enable the provision of urgently needed basic services and humanitarian assistance to address famine and starvation and the adverse conditions of life faced by Palestinians in Gaza, by: (a) immediately suspending its military operations in Gaza; (b) lifting its blockade of Gaza; (c) rescinding all other existing measures and practices that directly or indirectly have the effect of obstructing the access of Palestinians in Gaza to humanitarian assistance and basic services; and (d) ensuring the provision of adequate and sufficient food, water, fuel, shelter, clothing, hygiene and sanitation requirements, alongside medical assistance, including medical supplies and support.
“The State of Israel shall submit an open report to the Court on all measures taken to give effect to all provisional measures ordered by the Court to date, within one month as from the date of this Order.”
“Palestinian children are starving to death as a direct result of the deliberate acts and omissions of Israel — in violation of the Genocide Convention and of the Court’s Order. This includes Israel’s deliberate attempts to cripple the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (‘UNRWA’), on whom the vast majority of besieged, displaced and starving Palestinian men, women, children and babies depend for their survival,” write South Africa.

The latest death toll from Israel’s assault on Gaza stands at 30,717 people killed, including more than 12,300 children and 8,400 women. More than 72,156 Palestinians have been injured.
