Last year, the Centre for Research on the Epidemiology of Disasters team at the Institute of Health and Society (IRSS-UCLouvain) worked on improving disaster data interoperability by expanding the coverage of GLIDE unique disaster identifiers referenced in the Emergency Events Database EMDAT.

❓ GLIDE numbers are unique global identifiers issued by the Asian Disaster Reduction Center to improve emergency response coordination and data interoperability across disaster data systems. https://www.glidenumber.net/

📈 The update increased GLIDE number coverage in EM-DAT by 74%, facilitating easier comparison, development of disaster event linkage models, and the compilation of a multi-source consolidated disaster dataset for disaster risk research and management.

📢 We are pleased to announce that our latest article has been published in the International Journal of Disaster Risk Reduction.
Our paper, "EM-DAT: the Emergency Events Database," is now live and open access. This comprehensive publication explores the EM-DAT global disaster data related to both natural and technological hazards, documenting human and economic impacts from 1900 to the present.

Key figures:

2️⃣ Affecting 167.2 million people,
3️⃣ Causing at least 16,753 deaths.
