Two Men* Dancing

During the last Intimate Dancing event, I had a profoundly touching experience. At one point, two men were dancing very intimately, and my eyes were drawn to them—I simply couldn’t look away.

I realised that this isn’t a common scene. In the many party environments I've explored in mainstream society, I’ve never witnessed men dancing like this. I’ve only had the privilege of seeing such connections in predominantly q***r and gay-friendly spaces. I feel proud to create environments where both q***r and non-q***r men can feel safe enough to explore intimacy with one another.

As I watched this beautiful moment unfold, I felt vulnerable, and tears welled in my eyes. I experienced within myself a longing for deeper physical touch with men, reflecting my own hesitations and insecurities. It felt like a healing from the weight of thousands of years of patriarchy, a connection and longing that felt like coming home, yet also a sense of estrangement and disconnection, mixed with curiosity.

Why is it that women can connect so easily in our society?
Why do men have so much work to do, so much to heal?
I truly believe that our societies can only heal from trauma if we foster healthier connections with one another. We can only overcome patriarchy if men engage in deeper, more intimate connections.

Great to meet so many men showing up in their vulnerability. Amazing to see so many men opening up to a wide range of gender identities, gender expressions, and s.exual and relationship orientations. I’m so glad to hear there was a “snuggling space” at this year’s men’s festival in Belgium.

In embracing vulnerability and intimacy, we pave the way for deeper connections that challenge societal norms and foster healing among men.

*I identify as genderq***r/non-binary. However I do acknowledge my male presenting identity and honour the male parts and/or masculine traits within me.
