Dear Swapfietser,
Take a ride down the riverside 🏞
This bike route is planned in a loop taking you on a long bike ride by the lovely riverside, Schelde. Starting from the centre of Gent, Vooruit to the outskirts of Zwijnaarde, Merelbeke and close to Melle then follow the Scheldt river back to Gent. This is a very calm route with little to no traffic especially now. Once you reach Scheldt, it will take you on the old towpath.
This is a route that I found on Knoppunten (nodes) system. This makes it easier to change the starting point or distances.

Are you done with sitting inside all day? Have you seen all Netflix shows, did 10 puzzles and talked enough with your siblings/parents? Done with school and need a break?
The perfect solution is going outside and bike fun routes, with a Swapfiets bike off course. Ghent has always been known for its old buildings, rivers, etc. However, there’s another essential part of Ghent which is streetart. Today’s route will guide you through the graffiti streets, which are truly amazing.
Ghent is actively creating an opportunity for street artists, and therefore created the label sorry, not sorry. This project shows all the legal street art throughout Ghent which are over 100 different graffiti canvases. Ghent highly supports this and makes sure that all illegal street art projects are removed.
This route includes graffiti from artist all over the world including from the UK, Portugal, Mexico, Colombia, the Netherlands, etc. However, it also honours local artists like Mr. Leenknecht, Chase, Phase, etc. To get to know more details about these artists and to know where everything is located (location + artist), please go to these links:https://visit.gent.be/sites/default/files/content/brochure/files/20200225_DO_Street%20art%20map_En.pdf and this https://ghent.streetartcities.com
It’s a very long route so you can do a part every day, go to the artists you like or just choose some street art close to home.
Enjoy the route, stay healthy and think about your well-being!

Dear Swapfietsers,
Are you also gloomy because of the weather this week? No worries because we are expecting better weather from Sunday on, which means we can get back on the road with our Swapfiets! To make this quarantine a bit bearable, we’ve come up with cycling routes to keep your days exciting and healthy.
Today’s route will be an iconic city tour of Ghent where we can admire the city’s oldest and prettiest sights. You’ll cruise through the historic city of Ghent and see many of the classic spots such as the Citadelpark, Sint-Pietersabdij, Zuid, Prinsenhof, Gravensteen, Bijlokesite and many more!
The tour will take just about an hour.
Enjoy the greenery in park landscapes, admire the architecture of ‘The Three Towers’ and the historical parts of the city, explore the very popular student area at Overpoort and chill at the picture-perfect Graslei. You will see all sides of Ghent during this one-hour tour and fall in love with the city (maybe all over again).
Share your experience and the photos of the route with us in the comments down below!
Stay safe while cycling and keep a distance if you’re accompanied, and don't forget to enjoy it to the fullest!
Lastly please stay healthy and well.
